Five years at Carbon Health and stepping into the role of CEO—it’s been quite a journey! I’m excited to continue working with our incredible team as we focus on stability and steady growth.
Over the years, I’ve learned that leadership comes with its own set of challenges and opportunities, and there are a few key principles I strive to live by:
• 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹. It’s about making thoughtful decisions, being cautious with resources, and ensuring that we prioritize what truly matters. At the same time, knowing when to be generous—whether with responsibility, recognition, or resources—can foster a strong and motivated team.
• 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮. While it's crucial to make data-driven decisions, there’s also a need to rely on intuition and experience to navigate complex situations. Knowing when to balance the two is a skill I’ve honed over time.
• 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. Asking questions, even the simplest ones, often leads to deeper understanding and better outcomes. I’m not afraid to dig into the details or question assumptions to find the best solutions.
• 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆. Leadership is not about controlling every detail but trusting the talented individuals around you to innovate and excel. Empowering others to take charge and shine is essential for our collective success.
• 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲-𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀. I’ve learned to make quicker, more confident decisions, but I also recognize when to seek input from subject matter experts versus when a decision needs to be made swiftly without consensus.
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Whether it's prepping for a major initiative or planning a long-term strategy, a meticulous approach is often what sets successful teams apart. Consistent, small actions build the foundation for significant achievements.
• 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆. Leading by example, showing respect, and maintaining a steady demeanor—especially in challenging times—are crucial. It’s about being there for the team as a supporter and guide, not just as a leader.
• 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹. Instead of letting it hold me back, I use it to stay humble and open to learning. It keeps me grounded and always eager to grow.
As we enter this new phase at Carbon Health, I’m committed to maintaining a stable, strong path forward. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and work with our teams to achieve great things.
