Two weeks left to apply to our accelerator the Venture Launchpad ⏱ We're looking for startups working in climatetech, or the Net Zero transition, which avoid or remove GHG emissions, or which tackle other challenges for Earth's life support systems, e.g. biodiversity. https://lnkd.in/e8-5cjmd Eligible startups are: Teams of 2+ founders 👩🔧 👨🔧 UK registered company or intending to, asap. Have not raised equity funding yet (or only a small amount) 💰 Software or deeptech, hardtech, science-based 🔬 And why join the Venture Launchpad? 1. Impact 2. Investability 3. Traction Let's break that down. *Impact* Carbon13's the Venture Builder for the climate emergency. With us you'll understand and maximise your value proposition's potential to reduce emissions - and communicate this to investors, stakeholders and customers. Carbon13's already built a portfolio with a current collective potential to reduce emissions by 500 million tonnes per year. We have the expertise, the tools and the resources to make sure your startup makes a world changing impact. We don't work on anything less. *Investability* There's an investment opportunity on the accelerator of £200,000 (non-SEIS), but whether we invest or not, our aim is to make your startup investment ready. Pitches, strategies, proof points, data rooms, and confidence. We've invested in 72 startups since 2021, now collectively worth £190 million. *Traction* What does traction mean for your startup specifically. What's your commercial roadmap, what's your technical roadmap. At pre-seed you have tonnes more questions than answers for where to progress your product, our ecosystem becomes your brains trust to solve just that. Our ecosystem of hundreds of domain experts, investor partners, and your own entrepreneur in residence, drawn from a diverse pool of exited founders. Plus the alumni community from those 72 invested ventures. *Key details* The Venture Launchpad starts 14th October, deadline for applications is 10th September, programme is 99% remote. Big news for the Carbon13 team today. We are thrilled to announce the first close of our new #climate fund. The fund is targeted to be €30m. With the first close, we have invested in 19 amazing #climatetech teams, 6 of which are from our first venture builder programme in Germany and the rest from the UK programmes. When the fund reaches the target, our portfolio will be working towards the aim of abating 1% of global GHG emissions. This is a huge step forward for us and shows the scale of our ambition. We’ve put together a truly amazing team under our new CEO Nicky Dee, who are all working towards making this a reality! 🌊 Over the last 2 years, we have received 1000s of applications to our programmes, selected over 500 founders to join and cofounded over 150 startups with them. 💥 Across all funds, Carbon13 has now invested into 64 startups, each with the potential to mitigate global CO2e by 10m tonnes per year when at scale. 💪 64% of the teams have at least one female co-founder. 🌳 These investments mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Carbon13 as we begin further international expansion in Europe. Teaming up with Evan Caron and Sharo Atmeh, they're launching Montauk Climate, an incubator aimed at fostering innovative climate tech startups. Unlike traditional venture funds, Montauk Climate follows a startup studio approach, conceiving and developing businesses internally. With an initial $8.5 million investment led by Sheel Tyle of Amplo, they aim to bridge gaps in the climate tech landscape and capitalize on growing demand for low-carbon solutions. We’re back for another house tour. We’ll show you #PSVLab ⚗️ Our lab is rooted in the belief that, sometimes investing in the future demands us to take part in creating it ourselves. The lab isn’t a physical space; think of it as a mindset 🧠 It’s a blank space that is run by everyone and no one 🚀 As a venture house, our hybrid setup sparks synergies across our individual disciplines, fund models, and investment strategies. It gives us the privilege to really leverage the fact that great minds don’t think alike; they think differently. This fuels a continuous stream of ideas for new ways to clear the path for more founders. As with startups, a ton of our ideas and projects die in the development phase. But when an idea really catches fire, we dive head-first into the unknown. Over time, our lab and approach have nurtured initiatives, funds and tools like: 💫Academy: Most founders reaching out for the unicorn star end up failing. We wanted to help them beat the odds by activating the learnings of the +450 founders we had invested in. The constraint was that it couldn’t be an accelerator or incubator; it ended up being our academy. 💫Deeptech: Together with PSV Foundry’s founding partner, DTU, we identified a clear funding gap for scientific discoveries. That led us to bring in Marianne, Anders, and Jakob to scope and raise DK’s first deeptech-only venture fund. We got news on that after the summer. 💫Tech: Today, an established VC player, but #PSVTech grew out of an early belief that PSV could pioneer Denmark’s first institutional pre-seed fund. 💫 ESG Napkin: When ESG really started to bite into the startup ecosystem, only tools and frameworks were developed for big corporates. It didn't fit with the context of an early-stage startup. To help founders get started sooner rather than later, we decided to build a framework for them. 💫 LeaderSpace: Analysing insights from over 450 startup journeys, our People and Culture team identified that the founders' ability to scale themselves as leaders stood between success and failure. That insight led to the creation of a unique learning program, #PSVLeaderSpace. 💫Earthbound: Vital solutions to the climate crisis exist around university labs but never go further than research papers. We joined forces with several partners at DTU to find ways of hatching research with entrepreneurs. It turned into climate tech catalyst, DTU Earthbound. 💫Dual-use Growth: The world is calling for technologies within security and resilience, yet anything even remotely related to defence is on many investors' negative list. We’re in the early stages of discovering how we can responsibly invest in dual-use tech. Thank you to all our partners being part of it: DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Marianne Thellersen, Jes Broeng, DTU Entrepreneurship, DTU Science Park, Steen Donner, DTU Skylab, Mikkel Sørensen, DTU Earthbound, Simon Ulvund, Mikkel Marfelt, PhD, Nicolaj Højer Nielsen and many more

Studio Partners at venture capital firms are often asked, "What do you look for when evaluating startups?" Today Irit Nudelman offers her opinion. She is one of our venture partners, and specializes in strategic planning & screening new startups. Irit says, “Of course, the answer isn't a one-size-fits-all, but there are key factors that help guide us toward finding scalable, impactful solutions. They are as follows: 🌍Mission-Driven Founders We look for founders with a deep-rooted passion for solving environmental issues. Founders who truly understand the problem they're addressing and are relentless in their pursuit of sustainable solutions that stand out. 🚀Scalability and Tech Feasibility A brilliant idea is only part of the equation. Can the technology scale to meet global demands? Is the solution economically viable across regions, industries, and varying regulatory landscapes? Scalability without compromise on impact is critical. ⏳Market Timing & Fit While the urgency of climate change is clear, it’s important to assess whether the market is ready for the startup’s solution. Are there enabling technologies or policies in place that can accelerate adoption? 💼Sustainability of the Business Model Financial viability goes hand-in-hand with environmental sustainability. Startups need to demonstrate that they can build a solid business with lasting impact. That means not only focusing on reducing emissions or waste but also creating value for customers and investors alike. 📊Measurable Impact It’s vital that the startup can quantify the environmental impact of its solution. Whether it's reducing carbon emissions, conserving water, or preserving biodiversity - if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. My purpose is to help find and guide startups that have the power to reshape entire industries and create a positive ripple effect for generations to come. I’m delighted to be working with Tonbo and all our portfolio companies as we push the boundaries of innovation, together.” If you would like to know more about @Tonbo, please get in touch for a chat. #ClimateTech #VentureCapital #Sustainability #StartupScreening #CleanEnergy #ImpactInvesting
