Accounting for CO2 Footprint: Essential Considerations! 1. Avoid CO2 Tunnel Vision: Focus on the overall environmental footprint across multiple impact categories, not just CO2 emissions. 2. Comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment: Rely on established standards to evaluate product entire lifecycle instead of "cradle-to-gate" data, which may present a skewed perspective by omitting end-of-life considerations. 3. CO2 Sequestration: Carbon that isn’t sequestered for at least 100 years is typically not accounted for by international standards, as it doesn’t contribute to climate change mitigation. For example, biogenic carbon from plant-based products doesn't provide a lasting carbon-negative impact, as it goes back into the atmosphere as CO2 at the end of the product's lifecycle. Unless for instance, we look at a forest growing for many decades and supplying wood to make long-lasting products such as buildings which may reach 100 years and can claim the carbon sequestration benefit. 4.
