Held as an official side event to the prestigious World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF), the event brought together industry experts to explore cutting-edge solutions in circular economy practices. Paula's participation underscored IPI's commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives and fostering dialogue on waste management and recycling. Her insights on 'Plastic Recycling in Singapore: Turning Challenges into Opportunities' highlighted the critical need for collaboration and innovation in achieving a more sustainable future. Here are the key takeaways from Paula's insightful presentation: • Circularity requires close collaboration across the entire plastic value chain, emphasising the roles of producers, designers, consumers, and waste management stakeholders. • Technological advancements are crucial for handling the increasing volume of plastic waste, but behavioural shifts in both consumers and producers are equally essential for long-term sustainability. • Companies along the plastic recycling value chain have significant potential to develop new solutions such as recyclable packaging and advanced recycling technologies. Welcome to the Workshop on Circular Economy for Materials & Sustainable Innovation, Time and place: Wednesday 19/06 at Oslo Plaza, from 11:00. On the occasion, we are thrilled to bring together keynote speakers from e.g. Research Institutes in Belgium (CRM Group, SCK CEN, Université de Liège - Gemme Institute), Norwegian Centre of Circular Economy (NCCE), NCMT - Norwegian Circular Materials Technology, and Arctic Cluster Team. The workshop will be the occasion for Belgian and Norwegian participants to have insights in present ecosystems, strategic initiatives, projects and further discuss potential collaboration between the two countries. The Belgian contribution to the program is developed by CRMGroup, the coordinator of the #WIN4C strategic initiative in the Walloon region. Win4C adresses circularity on 3 material groups: metals, plastic/composite, and minerals.   There will be a special focus on projects related to the following topics -Circularity of metals -Valorization of metal waste -Batteries value chain. ♻ New research project underway! We're developing a report on recommendations for a "Just Transition in Waste Management and Circular Economy in the ASEAN Region" on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with a focus on the plastic value chain. 🙌 Transitioning towards a circular economy entails redesigning production and consumption patterns to minimise waste generation and promote recycling and reuse. However, this transformation poses significant #social challenges. To ensure a successful and equitable transition, the principle of "Just Transition" becomes crucial, encompassing an #inclusive approach that considers social, #economic, and #environmental implications. 📖 As part of our research and interview methodology, we are identifying best practices to help us in developing key recommendations and actionable steps for stakeholders, ensuring a #justtransition in #wastemanagement and #circulareconomy. Circuler Economy 💠 The EU has taken significant steps toward a circular economy. The Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), adopted in March 2020, is a key component of the European Green Deal. Its objectives include: 🔺 Making sustainable products the norm. 🔺 Empowering consumers and public buyers. 🔺 Focusing on resource-intensive sectors like electronics, plastics, textiles, and construction. 🔺 Reducing waste and keeping resources within the EU economy. Leading global efforts on circular economy practices. 💠The EU monitors progress using indicators such as material footprint and resource productivity. 💠UNECE Region (56 countries): These countries, spanning from North America to Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, have united to accelerate the shift toward a circular economy and responsible resource use. 💠While implementing the EU Circular Economy Action Plan, Sweden aims to advance circularity at the national level by adopting policies beyond EU regulations while preserving the Single Market. International Resource Panel (UNEP) A recent study by the International Resource Panel suggests that 80% of emissions could be cut through circular economy practices. On 16 November, Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon attended the Circular Valley Forum in Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is the most important conference around circular economy in Germany. The Minister-President signed a declaration of intent there with the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst. Flanders and North Rhine-Westphalia want to strengthen their collaboration in the field of circular economy and further develop into leading hotspots for circular economy in Europe.
