🔁Part of my Equity Lens is that I aim to live in a perpetual state of taking care of and taken care of. Taking care of: I consistently show up for my friends and community in whatever ways I can, I feed and water the plants and animals living around me, I look out for everyone’s children as if they were my own. Taken care of: I ask for what I need, I’m fed by the plants in my yard, I let people show up for me. I believe that creating systems of reliance and care with each other and nature will give us self determination and autonomy. The maids represent the gift of productivity and abundance, as they are engaged in the essential task of milking cows. Beyond the literal interpretation, this verse can be seen as a reminder of the importance of diligence, hard work, and the fruits of one's labour.   This encourages us to reflect on the value of industry and the joy that comes from sharing the results of our efforts with others. Many families of color still live in communities that are widely recognized to be ill-served by the current human services infrastructure and which have too few, if any, of the culturally responsive services they deserve. While increasing funding for prevention is a step in the right direction, state and federal agencies must issue an explicit commitment to supporting organizations providing services that are developed to best serve communities of color.
