🗣 "Qualifications are important - but employers tell us young peoples' determination, character, tenacity, a willingness to continue to learn, reliability, problem solving and offering a completely different lens on how they see the world of work is just as valuable as qualifications - and that's what careers education is all about." It's #resultsday which means thousands of young people across #Surrey will be receiving grades for GCSEs and other qualifications they have been studying for. Thoughts then turn to what comes next - and that's where Surrey Careers Hub comes in. The Hub's Strategic Lead Georgina Angele spoke to BBC Surrey radio this morning about next best steps for young people - and how employers are looking for more than good grades when they recruit their future workforce. Speaking to James Cannon, Georgina said: "Regardless of their results, I would urge all young people to think about volunteering, after school or weekend jobs, and doing things around their interests and hobbies to get additional skills. "Employers are saying qualifications are great but they are looking for a broad range of experience - which is why they have numerous points of entry into their organisations, such as T Levels, apprenticeships and graduate programmes. "That's why we are out there working with Further Education colleges and employers to develop programmes of study that are accessible to all young people." Surrey Careers Hub is a Surrey County Council service run in partnership with national body The Careers & Enterprise Company.
