Is a killer golf swing a hot job skill now? 🏌️♂️ The concept of a "killer golf swing" as a valued job skill in corporate America is interesting. Mastering the sport not only requires precision, focus, and strategic thinking, attributes that can be invaluable in professional settings, but a day on the course can also enhance networking opportunities. How important do you think socializing and networking are in advancing one's career, beyond traditional job skills? Do you believe mastering a sport like golf could provide a competitive edge in today's job market? This past weekend, I had a BLAST volunteering at the 2024 KitchenAid Senior PGA of America Championship at the beautiful Harbor Shores golf course in Benton Harbor, Michigan. My role was "Standard Bearer" which allowed me to be inside the ropes and as close to the action as you can be. Through my experience, I couldn't help but wonder how my role as Standard Bearer coincided with Recruiting. 🤔 ⛳ 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 As a Standard Bearer I was committed for 3 days, walking 9 miles each round with the players and caddies for 5 hours each round. The weather varied with sunny, warm skies to dodging thunderstorms. I had to mentally take small wins, three holes at a time opposed to viewing it as an 18 hole project. I even had to strategically decide when to drink water given the lack of bathroom access! 𝐼𝑛 𝑅𝑒𝑐𝑟𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑠𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑤𝑖𝑛𝑠. The players and spectators eyes were locked on my work after every shot. 𝐼𝑛 𝑅𝑒𝑐𝑟𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑦𝑜𝑢 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑎 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑧𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑡𝑜 𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑛'𝑡 𝑠𝑙𝑖𝑝𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑘𝑠. While I had so much fun, it was a job that required me taking it seriously to amplify others. 🔄 UTURN Talks: A Monthly Dive into Our Passions 🔄 Every last Thursday of the month, our team gathers for a UTURN Talk, where one of us shares a personal hobby or passion. A fantastic way for us to learn from each other and grow our community spirit whilst enjoying a drink and snack. This month, Justus took the stage to discuss his love for golf, ending his presentation with a thought-provoking statement: "Golf is the most versatile sport that exists." 🏌️♂️ Why? According to Justus, golf can be played anywhere, under any condition, everyone can play it, there are many ways to play and improve, and you can experience and enjoy it in different ways. 🤔 What do you think? Does golf deserve the crown for versatility, or is there another sport that involves even more diverse aspects? 🆕 Interested in joining us? Go to a golf course midday during the week and ask everyone who has the freedom to play at that time what they do (bonus points if they look young for their age) All either run their own business, are in sales or are investors So target career paths should be pretty clear

This article gives a fairly solid picture into some of the costs associated with playing on the PGA TOUR . It’s not all private jets and luxury hotels either, but costs add up quickly. How many people pay to work each week in a majority of careers??? You have to consider these costs are similar for those competing on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and Korn Ferry Tour where the purses are much lower. https://lnkd.in/ehQENjda

Golf is not only an excellent platform for #networking and conducting business, it also reveals a great deal about a person's character and professional ethics. Observe the behavior of your fellow players: do they fudge their scores, offer generous concessions on putts, or employ a subtle 'foot wedge' when they think no one is watching? During your next round, pay attention to how individuals conduct themselves on the course, especially when the stakes are low.
Standout golfers who aren’t quite PGA TOUR material now have somewhere else to play professionally: Corporate America. People who can smash 300-yard drives and sink birdie putts are sought-after hires in #finance, #consulting, #sales and other industries, recruiters say. In the #hybrid work era, the business #golf outing is back in a big way. Executive #recruiter Shawn Cole says he gets so many requests to find ace golfers that he records candidates’ handicaps, an index based on average number of strokes over par, in the information packets he submits to clients. Golf alone can’t get you a plum job, he says—but not playing could cost you one. Tee times and #networking sessions have long gone hand-in-golf-glove. Despite criticism that doing business on the course undermines #diversity, equity and inclusion efforts—and the fact that golf clubs haven’t always been open to women and minorities—people who mix golf and work say the outings are one of the last reprieves from 30-minute calendar blocks. How does the golf course play into your business? ⛳ Read more from Callum Borchers: https://lnkd.in/e9M9rb-9
