What I am going to say is going to disappoint many people: I've had lots of interest in APD work from audiometrists and hearing aid dispensers/specialists who would like to do auditory processing testing and treatment and, unfortunately, this is not in the scope of practice for audiometrists/HIS in most countries. (I have edited this to remove the specific countries I had listed given that I teach an international course.) For that reason, I cannot accept anyone who isn't an audiologist or SLP into my online courses. What these colleagues can do, though, is help us identify clients with reflags and make referrals to their audiology colleagues for testing or to audiologists or speech-language pathologists for treatment. I'm so sorry if this makes you sad. I get it. x #audpeeps #audiology #slpeeps #auditoryprocessingdisorder #scopeofpractice

Posts like these inside audiology groups on Facebook make my hands shake with frustration. https://lnkd.in/gBscxx9U? To everyone with APD, I am so sorry for the awful way our profession has treated you. Many do not know the harm they have done by caring more about our professional bickering than the needs of our patient. One day, audiology will realize that we lost as many people with APD to suicide as we have with tinnitus. Yes. It exists, and it can be measured. Yes, it can be treated. And yes, we cause psychological harm to our patients when we put our own profession’s childish arguments over the lived experience of the people who come to us for support. It isn't good enough. We must do better than this. #apdawareness #audpeeps #audiology #auditoryprocessingdisorder #APD.

In 2018, a speech pathologist was seeing a new client, a 3-year-old special needs boy. The speech pathologist asked the mother if she could complete an oral mechanism exam on the boy, to which the mother responded, "He will not open his mouth for the doctor, the dentist, and especially not for a wooden tongue depressor." The speech pathologist then pulled out a Throat Scope and told the little boy it was her light saber, and the light saber needed to see his tongue. Immediately, the little boy opened his mouth and even allowed the speech pathologist to capture a video of his oral examination. This is the moment, the feeling that our product created: * For the boy, who went from fearing oral exams to being excited to participate. * For the mother, who was completely shocked and thrilled to see her son’s teeth. * For the speech pathologist, who could complete her oral mechanism exam and provide the best outcomes for her patient. This is the feeling every product or service should create when they land in the hands of your customer. When you create that feeling, you build the ultimate marketing campaign for your product. As Steve Jobs once said, "People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” #theHeARTofDigital #marketing #product #medtech #gotomarket #feeling #throatscope #hollandhealthcare #stevejobs

It is important to clarify that the use of hearing aids should indeed be prescribed by a qualified audio-vestibular physician after a thorough patient history, proper examination, and accurate diagnosis. This ensures that the patient receives a compensatory device that can improve their lifestyle and communication abilities. It is crucial to consult with a professional in audiology to determine the most suitable hearing aid for individual needs # medical education# DAHC# Audiology#Audio-Vestibular# hearing aids
