The Board Succession discussion begins at minute mark 14:00 . The peculiar exchange between Board members Kyle Hauptman and Tanya Otsuka begins at minute 40:11 I’ll summarize my sentiments into a question: Is the loss of a charter and capital in a credit union comparable to the costs of Board/CEO succession planning ? I am a pragmatic person so I’d like to offer two practical solutions: - Incentivize CEOs with bonuses for annual completion of board succession tasks. - Allow CEOs to benefit from the capital growth within their organizations, fostering ownership and alignment with the credit union's success. Put more plainly, if when a CEO started, the credit union had 8 million in capital and by their retirement they’ve created 24 million in capital they should be to access some of those funds in the form of a “liquid event”. Doing this will reduce the risk of the CEO seeking a “liquid event” in the form of a needless merger. A common example is the resources and effort placed to curate and execute the perfect Acknowledgment of Country, either verbally or with some beautiful signage across buildings incorporating local language or arts. It’s time to shift from from actions to impact.
