Staff and residents at Walker Road in Walsall recently embraced #CareHomeOpenWeek by working together to make a difference in their local community. One of Walker Road’s residents (Garry) used to participate in a litter pick organised by a local Rotary Club. Inspired by the positive impact this can have, staff and residents decided that this could be a wonderful way to make a difference in their local area and engage with their local community. The undertaking of a litter pick also tied in perfectly with Walker Road’s commitment towards CareTech’s CARE4, One Planet Living agenda. Staff ordered litter pickers and hoops (to hold the rubbish bags open) and everyone donned high-vis jackets before getting to work. Led by Garry, staff and residents went out on four occasions over the course of Care Home Open Week and managed to collect 7 bags of rubbish just from the streets local to their home. Speaking about the litter pick, Tina Welch (Manager at Walker Road) declared: “What a brilliant time! We had so much fun and really feel as though we have made a difference to the local area, in fact we’ve enjoyed it that much that we are going to keep doing litter picks as a regular activity”. Fantastic work... well done to everyone at Walker Road! #CareTech #CHOW #ChampioningSocialCare #CARE4 #OnePlanetLiving #ExtraordinaryDaysEveryDay
