📢We are excited to announce the launch of the Platform for Peace and Humanity’s #Indo-#Pacific programme. The Indo-Pacific is a dynamic region in the world, home to half the world’s population and a myriad of peoples, faiths and political systems. This brings with it complex #humanrights, #humanitarian and #security challenges, and the ever-present threat of conflict. The programme team will take a deep dive into the region to tackle these issues, distilling actionable policy recommendations, providing clear analysis to decision-makers and supporting the Platform for Peace and Humanity's organisational objectives. This will include the release of the quarterly Peace & Security Monitor, which will closely follow the latest regional developments, provide an overview of events and analyse their consequences for the region and beyond. The first issue of the Indo-Pacific programme’s #PeaceandSecurityMonitor is out in mid-June. The programme will also utilise our local researchers' expertise and hard work, who will undertake specific projects that monitor and analyse human rights and humanitarian and legal issues throughout the region.

🆕 Financial regulations linked to sanctioned regimes, counterterrorism legislation, anti-money laundering and other illicit finance are having a paralysing and chilling effect on the banking sector and the processing of humanitarian transactions. This impacts the ability of aid organisations to deliver humanitarian operations in insecure settings. To address this challenges this creates, HPG's Helen Alderson and Alexandra Spencer have just published a summary of discussions and recommendations from an international dialogue exploring the instruments and practices to reduce the chilling effect of regulation. Key takeaways include: 💡 Financial institutions should carry out robust due diligence, screening and monitoring processes to comply with anti-money laundering and sanctions legal requirements. 💡 Financial institutions should be held accountable by independent financial regulators wherever they operate. 💡 Opportunities for bringing together or streamlining due diligence throughout the transaction chain must be sought. This week, the foreign minister of Denmark, H.E. Mr. Lars Løkke Rasmussen, visited New York to present our priorities for a seat on the UN Security Council, should we be elected. The visit could not have been more timely, as it happened the exact same day the Security Council finally agreed on a resolution demanding a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution, presented by a unified group of all elected members (E10) is an excellent example of how the elected members can make a difference, and why the Security Council still matters even in times of great division. The Danish priorities for a seat on the Security Council are in short: - Standing up for international law and pushing for an effective Council - Adapting conflict responses to new realities - Addressing effects of climate change on peace and security - Implementing the Women, Peace and Security agenda We hope for your support on 6 June, and in 2025-2026. #WorkingforDK

This is excellent news. The security of Australia is indeed integrally entwined with that of PNG and our Pacific nation neighbours. A Free and Open IndoPacific is essential to global stability, order, peace and prosperity. The IndoPacific is in critical need of a regional security architecture to neutralise Chinese transgression in the region. Chinese transgressions include territorial invasion such as in the West Philippine Sea and Indian sovereign borders at Ladak; plus, regular state sponsored cyber invasions resulting in identity and financial theft, and property and critical infrastructure destruction; unsustainable and environmentally hazardous illegal overfishing through the Pacific; covert spying operations and intimidation. It is time for an IndoPacific NATO security architecture to be established which sees a combined voice in countering unacceptable, illegal, immoral Axis nation aggression in the world's most prosperous region. Australia should take the initiative and host a preliminary "round table" security gathering for the free nations of the IndoPacific to work out how they can define, build, and deploy such a regional security architecture. This should be done as soon as possible. Our Free and Open IndoPacific and the democracy that unpins all its nations is at stake and must be defended.
