Free to attend. Our next talk is with the wonderful Professor Gill Richards - this session is in hybrid format (both online and in person). Gill has a wealth of experience and expertise in SEND, Equity, and Inclusion; her talks are hugely accessible, deeply connected to the research, and always delivered with kindness. Here is a little taster:
Do you really know me? Understanding the impact of some young people's reality.
Most schools have students who cause them concern, but despite an ever-increasing range of initiatives and strategies, there are some vulnerable young people who continue to exist on the periphery of school life. While there can be many reasons for this, one thing is clear, these young people’s needs are not being met. Could this be because schools are responding to what they know about their students from what is overtly presented, unaware of deeper issues impacting their lives? In this session, through examples of research and school practice, Gill explores how really knowing our students enables us to make better informed decisions on ways in which to address the barriers they experience so they can benefit from a more positive engagement with education.
