Nothing Is Free...Not Even Doing Good, at Least in my World! You often hear the phrase: "It takes a village." After working in the nonprofit industry for several years, I do wonder if it does take a village, or is it just a small group of company owners who care enough about social change, that they "become the village." Building a nonprofit from ground zero into one than can affect change across the United States takes a lot more than just a village - it takes private and corporate partnerships. We all know, nothing is free, not even doing good! Our Vets on Track Foundation is making an impact in the homeless veteran arena by furnishing homes for those transitioning into permanent housing from homelessness. We give these unsung heroes a reason to want to go home, and not return to the streets. While we recently furnished our 1,000th home in Virginia, there is need all across the country. Our quest is to open Divisions of our Foundation in every state in the union - but we can't do it alone. We need the "Village," no matter what that looks like. The American people or Corporate America or a combination of both. We need to build a partnership that will help us continue moving forward and affect change. What is Homes for Heroes and why are we part of it? #Homesforheroes is a nationwide team of specialists dedicated to giving back and serving our community Heroes including firefighters, law enforcement, military, healthcare workers, and teachers. These Heroes work hard to serve and better our communities every day. #HappyBirthday to the National Park Service and to the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area. 🎂 Our birthday was yesterday (Aug 24). It's the day in 1984 that Ronald Reagan signed the bill that created our National Heritage Area–America's First–as a "new kind of national park" that combined preservation, conservation, recreation and economic development within an area where people lived, worked and created history. The National Park Service was established on August 25, 1916 to "preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations." Of course, the closeness of our birthdays was by design. The Reagan administration wanted to sign the bill in conjunction with celebrating the NPS' birthday. Our two organizations, the Canal Corridor Association and the NPS, remain close to this day in more than just our birthdays. Today, we are part of a National Heritage Area System within the National Park Service that uses a public-private partnership model in which local non-government coordinating entities collaborate with government agencies. In June 2016, we organized the 'Offense Dream' volunteer event, 'Turning Dreams into Reality,' to raise generous financial donations for registered orphans through Al-Rahma Association. In just a few days, we collected over 35 Omani Rials, making a meaningful impact on the dreams of these orphans. 💰🌟 This experience enhanced my organizational 📅, social 🤝, fundraising 💪, determination 🏆, and teamwork 🤝 skills.
