The Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri: 'For the Catholic Jubilee 5G coverage among highest in the world' 'Procedure to enable high level of data monitoring' "We will achieve in Rome one of the highest levels of 5G coverage in the world, which will allow us to connect so many smart applications to 5G networks". This was said by the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, on the eve of the Catholic Jubilee, in a video link to the third forum of The Urban Mobility Council, the mobility think tank promoted by the Unipol Group. For Gualtieri, mobility planning for the Jubilee 'is absolutely necessary. On the other hand, precisely for the Jubilee, we are organising a project, the total outdoor coverage of the city with 5G, using micro-antennas, light poles and metro lines", in an "extremely ambitious public-private plan". "It also involves," continues Gualtieri, "the collection, use and processing of a very large amount of data. Monitoring that can cover both what vehicles do and what people do: traffic sensors, air quality, etc.". According to Gualtieri, "it will be a process that will enable a much higher level of data monitoring that needs to be processed in order to build policies that are also strategic for the day-to-day management of safety. So anything that helps with data collection and monitoring is fundamental'.

Da strade… ad autostrade per comunicazioni con la potenza della luce: in fibra ottica, più veloci, flessibili, sicure, miniaturizzate e green! 🔵 Più veloci e flessibili Nelle reti ottiche, la luce può sfruttare diversi canali frequenziali della fibra come fossero diverse corsie di una galleria ma anche diverse gallerie nella stessa montagna (fibra), per portare maggior traffico (gruppi di fotoni) che codifica i simboli trasmessi. Si può “dirigere” il traffico in maniera flessibile, dividendolo per sensi di marcia o per tipologia. 🔵 Più sicure Si possono anche far viaggiare in mezzi speciali, su corsie di qualche galleria, delle speciali automobili (fotoni) che trasportano informazioni di sicurezza (stati di polarizzazione) e che, se vengono “intercettate”, si rendono automaticamente inutilizzabili. 🔵 Più miniaturizzate Come nell’elettronica consumer, la frontiera dei circuiti integrati fotonici consente di costruire, tra le fibre, degli “incroci stradali” miniaturizzati, che fanno convergere il traffico di diverse corsie, lo ritardano o lo deviano verso le corsie di uscita dell’autostrada per giungere a casa. 🔵 Più green La rappresentazione di un bit logico con fotoni (al limite anche solo uno) determina un consumo di energia molto inferiore rispetto all’equivalente elettronico e la sua propagazione in fibra ottica avviene con attenuazioni bassissime. --------------- L’idea di uno dei Cluster delle #GrandChallenge di #RESTART è quindi di sfruttare le proprietà della propagazione della luce e dell’utilizzo in rete delle fibre ottiche e dei nodi in fotonica integrata per conferire alle reti di #TLC maggiore capacità, flessibilità, cybersicurezza e risparmio energetico.
