👏🏗️⚒️The new N. Bobbio school by Politecna Europa will bring a glimpse of innovation and social inclusion in the heart of the so-called Barriera di Milano district. With a population density three times higher than the city average, the area is characterized by spatial and social discontinuities. As designers, we believe in the power of physical space to reconnect communities, to enhance a share identity and a sense of belonging. School is the perfect place to do so! With about 4,500 square meters of permeable surfaces and 3,659 square meters allocated for about 382 students in the Barriera di Milano neighborhood, the N. Bobbio school in Turin will return to the city with added value. The project, winner of the national "Nuove Scuole - Futura" Italian competition under the Italian PNRR (Recovery and Resilience Plan), aims to foster integration within the surrounding urban context. The beginning of this exciting story is already here: the demolition works have started and soon the new construction will rise. Politecna Europa Planet Smart City Luca Massimo Giacosa Marco Pilia

CONDITIONS AND SUSTAINABILITY OF TEMPORARY REUSE PROJECTS. A SHIFT OF PARADIGM, AN ACTIVE ECONOMIC APPROACH. ENABLING OR REGULATING? For Module 1b of M-US-T master temporary uses at Politecnico di Milano, we thanks #eziomicelli , Full professor at the IUAV University of Venice where he teaches subjects related to the economics of the project. He is the director of the U-Rise Master in urban regeneration and social innovation. He coordinates the IMPACT research cluster on the themes of the economic and social impact of interventions on cities and territories. It was a pleasure to reflect together with our students starting from reasoning and open questions: a paradigm shift in welcoming proposals for temporary uses for abandoned spaces. An evaluation of the stock of publicly owned assets that has seen an enhancement thanks to a new active approach, which has changed the role from regulator to facilitator of temporary reuse and regeneration practices with new emerging actors from below, the cultural entrepreneurs. Are we then faced with a new model of co-design, co-production of collaborative services? The cultural and social entrepreneur is part of a civic economy (Stefano Zamagni) that takes charge of activating, managing and promoting the rebirth of spaces with communities of care. So we can also talk about a responsible entrepreneur. And how does the public administration position itself? It is necessary to ask whether it is more important to facilitate and facilitate these practices or to think about regulating them? It is certainly important to identify indicators for evaluating social, economic and environmental impact. .. among the slides many places and friends, including ex fadda with #robertocovolo and #Controprogetto, mare culturale urbano with #AndreaCapaldi and the national network of culturally based regeneration spaces with #RobertaFranceschinelli, the experiments with new financing and paths of #FondazioneCariplo, #CheFare up to the Municipality of Milan with hybrid sociocultural spaces and the Ministry of Culture with Ibridazioni. The work on the field and the reflections continue .. see you soon! #must #mastertemporaryuses #polimi #craft #centrocompetenzeterritoriantifragili #dastu #consorziopoliedra #eziomicelli #responsibleentrepreneur

How important are European projects for promoting research and publications? I read this paper about the literature review on coworking spaces entitled: "TRENDS IN CO-WORKING SPACE ANALYSIS: A BIBLIOMETRIC REVIEW". https://lnkd.in/dZakNq9a and I realised how many papers we have written within the Cost Action CA18214 and the CORAL-ITN European projects. Others will be published within the Remaking_eu project! Stay tuned! Recently, the issue of Collaborative spaces and Third Places has been explored even by Richard Florida "Third places, the connective fibre of cities and high-tech entrepreneurship" https://lnkd.in/dxgVbkVs and Nick Bloom is also exploring the role of workspaces Politecnico di Milano DAStU

"The factory must not only produce profit, but must also distribute wealth, culture, services, democracy and beauty to its workers and to the people" (Adriano Olivetti, Ivrea, 1955) Check out our new article where we discuss how the city of #Ivrea continues to embody #AdrianoOlivetti’s vision, including the preservation of industrial heritage together with the empowerment of the local community. “Industrial Heritage and Citizen Participation: The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ivrea, Italy" is featured in the special issue "Industrial Heritage and Cultural Clusters: More Than A Temporary Affair?", available in open access in the Urban Planning Journal (Cogitatio Press). The study explores the dynamics of community participation in managing the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ivrea, Italy, designated as the "20th Century Industrial City" in 2018. The article employs an #actionresearch methodology where multidisciplinary and #participatoryapproaches have been deployed to strengthen the connection among residents, #industrialculturalheritage, and the city. Through participatory approaches, strong #communityengagement and #adaptivereuse of industrial spaces, our action-research study wishes to contribute to the future of post-industrial cities around the world where cultural and creative industries play a vital role, as well the active engagement of stakeholders to envision such a future. Thank you to Erica Meneghin Martha Friel Mariangela Lavanga for the valuable collaboration on this paper! We would also like to thank all those involved in making this publication possible, Managing Editor Tiago Cardoso, the editors of the special issue Uwe Altrock and Janet Merkel, the anonymous reviewers, Ivrea patrimonio Unesco , and last but not least Fondazione Santagata for the Economics of Culture to which the study was commissioned. The historic monastery of Astino in Bergamo will soon be a new home of the CIID community in Italy, and for our incoming Interaction Design Programme students: but why did we choose Italy for this venture? And why this particular site in Bergamo? First, there’s the Astino valley itself: an exceptionally biodiverse place where the Fondazione MIA is already managing a variety of projects focused on inclusion and environmental regeneration. For CIID, it’s a natural fit with our values around regenerative design, and an ideal place for pursuing studies and projects that seek to create positive impacts for both people and planet. But there are a couple of other advantages to the Bergamo location, which we’re excited to tell you about in this video. Ready to take the next step? Click here to learn more about CIID and the upcoming cohort of the IDP starting this September in Italy, and to book a one-on-onefree information session https://bit.ly/3VWwEpS Let's craft a regenerative future together, and make a tangible, positive impact on the world. #Bergamo #Italy #CIID #InteractionDesign #Global #Perspective #DesignEducation #International #Cultures #Different #ExperientialLearning #RegenerativeDesign #IDP #InteractionDesignProgramme #listen #built #test #repeat

This semester at MOME Budapest we held a workshop during the Fall 2024 Course Week, titled Riverless: Exploring Urban Futures through Visual Collage. This week-long exploration of speculative design and ecological urbanism focused on the relationship between cities and waterways. Using the Danube River in Budapest as our lab, students investigated its uncertain future amidst climate change and urban transformation. The week combined research, fieldwork, and creative design. Guest presentations by Máté Hulesch and Ferenc Réder provided critical insights into speculative design and sustainable water management. The students’ final projects, reviewed by guest critics including Laura Sütöri (Balka Creative) and Clément Blanchet (CBA), paired thought-provoking collages with future scenarios ranging from optimistic to cautionary. This interdisciplinary effort challenged students to reimagine the relationship between urban and natural systems—not just for protection but to foster symbiosis, sustainability, and richer human experiences. I’m proud of the creativity and critical thinking students brought to this project and hope it inspired them in their creative journeys. To view the final projects and explore their imaginative visions, visit: https://lnkd.in/d4B2Db8K. I look forward to continuing to explore these vital topics in future semesters and courses. #SpeculativeDesign #UrbanFutures #DanubeRiver #Sustainability
