Transition to decarbonized freight Maritime and rail freight play a crucial role in the transition to clean transportation. The maritime sector, responsible for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, aims for significant reduction with the adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other clean fuels. Innovative projects like sails on ships illustrate this shift toward a greener economy. Rail freight, already largely electrified in Europe, is turning to the 'digital train' to optimize operations and reduce emissions. Massive investments are needed to develop rail highways and modernize infrastructure. The future of transport depends on technological innovation, international cooperation, and the adoption of sustainable solutions. Learn all about this complex but essential transition to ensure the sustainability of our global transport system: https://lnkd.in/eZXxytM7

While most American ports have decarbonization plans in place, a new report shows there are significant challenges to advancing emission-reduction projects, including financial constraints, low technology readiness and physical space limitations. The report is based on feedback from AAPA members and represents the culmination of a joint development project (JDP), a unique collaboration between AAPA and ABS, providing perspectives from both port authorities and vessel operations experts. This report provides an important benchmark to understand the ability and interest in decarbonization infrastructure at U.S. ports & the data provided by ABS - uniquely positioned with deep expertise in regulatory compliance and technological breakthroughs - can help policymakers understand what is needed to advance port decarbonization. For more insights, register to the upcoming webinar on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 on the link below. #decarbonization #policymaking #data #regulatorycompliance

🌍 Celebrate iTEM’s 10th Anniversary! A heartfelt thank you to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe François Cuenot and Dmitry Mariyasin for hosting iTEM7 and the Fall 2024 meeting of the Transport Data Commons initiative. Seeing our communities come together is always encouraging, proving that open, transparent, and collaborative work is key to making transport more sustainable. As we mark the 10th anniversary of iTEM, it’s incredible to think about what we’ve built together. iTEM started with a simple mission: improve transport data and modeling to support informed decision-making. What really stands out to me is the valuable discussions and honest insights we’ve shared—especially from those who might not usually be in the spotlight at academic conferences or in policy circles. https://lnkd.in/dTRVFMk7 Looking ahead, I’m eager to think more about how we can strengthen the balance between industry-academia-NGOs-policymakers in transport modeling. What’s our added value? We've produced some meaningful publications over the years: Future of Passenger Transport and Climate Policy https://lnkd.in/dEB342gg Building a Community for Sustainable Transport. https://lnkd.in/deTSZgu3 And it’s great to see the iTEM Open Data hitting 1,000+ downloads—this, along with our active GitHub interactions, has been crucial for improving data quality: iTEM Open Data on Zenodo https://lnkd.in/ex2wxZAt GitHub Repository https://lnkd.in/deFBJzZW Let’s grow this community together. Very Happy to host at United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and remotely the 7th session of International Transport and Energy Modelling partnership (iTEM7) and the Fall 2024 meeting of the Transport Data Commons initiative. Having both communities come together is a great signal that open, transparent and collaborative work to make transport more sustainable is a reality. Looking forward to further progress and deliverables.
