Excited to share this upcoming learning opportunity I was fortunate to stumble across while scrolling. I can see some big picture benefits already! My passion began in 2012 while in the field of research administration working with faculty at a Predominantly Undergraduate Institution (PUI). I quickly recognized some of the literal and mental roadblocks faculty, administrators, and leaders at all levels of PUI's tend to experience to increase awarded proposals. ➡️ Expectations that included submitting award winning proposals, while also excelling at teaching required course loads. ➡️ The very real issues of leadership having to cut budgets during tough times, while also working hard on ideas to attract new students, increase graduation rates, and work towards decreasing rates of attrition. Thinking outside of the proverbial box 📦 : During that time, having had much experience researching other researchers CV's and awarded proposals, and 'cold-calling' to match researchers with interrelated interests in order to increase proposal submissions and awards, I know there are better ways than acting as a marketer, matchmaker, mediator, moderator, etc. Nothing at all wrong with any of those professions nor doing what it takes. It worked many times but I'm certain there are better and more efficient ways. 🎯 Anything that can be learned to decrease the burden on faculty while also doing legwork that CRA's can *reasonably* do beyond job requirements may help in many ways across the entire spectrum of the research enterprise. Note: My optimism can sometimes fall into the category of unrealistic expectations. Despite the years it might take off of my life one day, I've decided to keep it.

Two academics in the School of Medicine are among the Highly Cited Researchers for 2024.   Professors Ana Valdes and Stamatios Sotiropoulos are on this year’s list, which is collated by Clarivate from Web of Science data to recognise researchers who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research.   Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000.

A new study adds impetus to an old question: How should we measure the real-world impact of research? From the UK and US to Australia and China, the last decade or so has seen increasing efforts to find ways to assess researchers’ contributions to human progress. 6,636 individuals have earned 6,886 Highly Cited Researcher designations from a global pool of over 9 million researchers. Think of them as the top 1% of the knowledge ecosystem. Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers 2024 list is now out, showcasing researchers from 59 countries. China continues to expand its presence on the list, with over 1 in 5 researchers hailing from the country.

I’m reflecting on how science can help solve some of our fundamental societal problems as I’m involved in some complex technology research at the moment. Although the areas of research are different, the same research team collaborations, problem definition, language etc are the same.
