University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management’s Post

Grateful to Prathibha Varkey, MBBS, MPH, MHPE, MBA, and president of Mayo Clinic Health System, for speaking at 1st Tuesday today! Some takeaways from her discussion include: • Never be afraid to educate yourself. Varkey has four degrees, and each serves a different purpose — her ’13 MBA from the Carlson School gave her a much-needed financial background. • Stretch goals (ambitious but still technically possible targets) can be strong motivation and self-confidence tools. Assuming victory early on can help free you and your team to tackle things otherwise seen as daunting. • Take risks, as a person and as an organization, to encourage growth. Anything less than 30% uncomfortability means you’re not challenging yourself enough.

  • Dean Prenkert and President Prathibha Varkey discuss on stage at the 1st Tuesday event.

Thank you Dean Jamie Darin Prenkert and University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management for inviting me to the 1st Tuesday event today. It was great exploring transformation and the role of leadership, as well as the critical role of education to lead culture change.
