Celebrating World Swift Day! From tiny helpless nestlings in the plan of my hand to masters of the skies, they are delicate flying ballerinas 💙 We are killing off birds so fast now we might as well be doing it on purpose. How long can we go on like this, and still have birds in our world and Swifts in our skies? Swifts are threatened around the world: from the decline in insect populations to severe droughts, even loss of urban nesting sites in Europe due to renovation of human constructions (both old and new). Swifts provide free ecosystem services through their insectivorous diet, they bring joy and feeling of belonging (we know it's spring when they arrive:)), they connect people to nature & they are effortlessly beautiful & graceful. How we can help save Swifts: •Put up Swift Nest Boxes. •Incorporate Swift bricks into new build properties. •Plant wild flowers to encourage invertebrate numbers. •Submit Swift sightings to national surveys. •If you find a grounded Swift: A healthy Swift is capable of taking flight from the ground, so gebtlu pick the swift up and place it in to a secure ventilated box and contact Gabo Wildlife
