Megan Peatt, who graduated from Embry‑Riddle in the spring with a major in Astronomy and a minor in Computer Science, was fascinated by the stars and space while growing up. In high school, she realized that she “wanted to understand how the universe worked — binary systems, black holes, supernovae.” ✨ Now, she is the lead author on a groundbreaking paper documenting a discovery into how stardust is formed by a quirky duo of massive, hotter-than-the-sun stars, and is being published in the Astrophysical Journal. Learn more about her research here! https://bit.ly/3PGUHo9 #GoERAU

We're over the moon 🌙 to announce our partnership with Curiosity Inc., the premium documentary film and non-fiction series streaming service. This collaboration forms a key milestone in our #StellarDreams initiative, aiming to inspire the next generation of astronomers and address the underrepresentation of Black scientists in these fields. Our mission is not just about providing telescopes to socioeconomically challenged Black families across the U.S. 🌠 It's about opening up a universe of educational content to further their learning journey. That's why every telescope recipient will also receive an annual subscription to Curiosity Stream. Kevin Edds, VP of Creative Services at Curiosity Stream, beautifully articulated our shared vision, "At Curiosity Stream, we understand the power of curiosity and its role in shaping future scientists... We’re thrilled to be part of an initiative that gifts telescopes and opens up a universe of possibilities for these young minds." The Science Haven's ambitious goal: give 100 beginner-friendly telescopes and essential astronomy education to 100 deserving Black families, fueling 100 dreams that illuminate a lifetime of discovery. We thank Curiosity Stream for their support in amplifying our cause, and for providing our first major endorsement. Join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter and help us raise the next generation of science. After all, it takes a village to raise a scientist. 💫 #scienceforall #partnership #curiositystream #thesciencehaven #stayingcurious #spaceexploration

On Monday I had the privilege, honor, and joy of sitting for a face-to-face, one-on-one podcast interview with Brother Guy Consolmagno, director of the Vatican Observatory and known as the "Pope's Astronomer." It was a most enjoyable chat, during which we covered the relationship between faith and science, misconceptions about the Catholic Church's relationship with astronomy and science, and where history got it right and got it wrong. I hope you enjoy! https://lnkd.in/eBui-an4

On this Day, A Star 🌟 was Born! Why does Carl Gauss's story matter? Today commemorates the birth of Carl Friedrich Gauss, a mathematical prodigy whose contributions continue to shape the world. From his groundbreaking work in number theory to his advancements in physics and astronomy, Gauss's brilliance illuminates the annals of science. 🔢🔭 It's because of his legacy that today, - we have fundamental mathematical concepts essential for modern science and technology - we understand the Earth's shape better, because of the calculations and predictions he made - we know about Ceres, a dwarf planet in our solar system - aspiring mathematicians and scientists find inspiration in his unparalleled intellect and perseverance and many more At LIFE-To & Beyond Foundation®, we celebrate the enduring impact of Gauss's genius as part of The Beyonder's Initiative. #carlgauss #mathematics #physics #astronomy #scientific #legacy #thebeyondersinitiative #lifetoandbeyond #foundation

"We might be able to derive a theory of everything, but there is an outlier that resists that goal, and that is gravity (Janna Levin)". Video Link: https://lnkd.in/ddB3geiP Hi, I am an astronomy enthusiast, a writer and someone who loves to explore the boundaries of the universe. My passion for astronomy started when I was in university studying space sciences and gravity made me fall in love with it. The idea of a force (it's not actually a force) keeping the universe together, blows my mind and one of my lifelong dreams is to find out what creates this beauty. Follow me on this journey as I explore gravity as an absolute beginner. PS: If you love gravity we really need to talk!!

Did you know that the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Exeter is offering a new module this year on the physics of climate change? I got the privilege sit down with Senior Lecturer and Module Lead, Dr Raphaëlle Haywood, to discuss the module. This module aims to give a an understanding of the physics underlying climate and climate change, including building toy models of the climate, as well as empowering students to take action. On personal note, I wish this module had existed during my undergraduate days! Thanks so much to Raphaëlle for taking the time out to share this work.

Dr. Sarah Sadavoy, assistant professor in the department of physics, engineering physics, and astronomy has devoted her career to unraveling the mysteries of space. Today, she turns her attention to our own solar system as the Great North American Eclipse sweeps across the sky, casting much of the continent in darkness. But why are we so fascinated by eclipses, and what can they teach us about our world – and worlds beyond? Find out below. https://bit.ly/3JcmIRK #solareclipse #GreatNorthAmericanEclipse #eclipse #queensu #queensalumnireview
