Recently McKinsey & Co posted the attached article. For traditional lenders (banks, credit unions etc.) private credit is fast becoming one of its primary competitors. The article includes a look at the type of credit private lenders are expected to expand, four trends expected, preparing for the next era of private credit and implications for traditional lenders. While a bit scary when traditional lenders see the expected growth for private lenders, it also provides a roadmap for traditional lenders to compete with private lenders. Traditional lenders have the advantage of being more relationship focused than private lenders, who are typically transactional lenders. A strong case can be made for traditional lenders to adopt some of private lenders strengths to capture some of private lenders expected growth and protecting our own customer base.
