🏗 The construction industry sits on the backbone of rigorous safety standards, essential for safeguarding our workers and the communities we serve. However, the recent indictment of a company by the New York State Supreme Court casts a grim light on the devastating consequences of compromising these standards. Valor Security and Investigations operated under the guise of a safety training school, only to distribute fraudulent OSHA training cards—a shortcut with perilous outcomes. Nearly 20,000 individuals received dubious certifications from Valor, misusing safety cards—some obtained in less than a day, often for cash, and backdated improperly. This malpractice culminated tragically with the death of a worker, Ivan Frias, highlighting a harsh truth: when safety training is undermined, real lives are at stake. Today, CATSI stands in solidarity for uncompromising safety standards. To every worker, to every family, and to every community member—we owe you our commitment to safety, without shortcuts, without exceptions! The 2024 Safety Performance Report from Associated Builders and Contractors identified 4 key practices with exponential impact, but this one really stood out: 🔴 Companies that conduct daily, 15-to-30-minute toolbox talks reduce TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate) and DART rates by 81% compared to companies that hold them monthly. Adding just one more toolbox talk per month (from one monthly 15-to-30-minute toolbox talk to two per month or bi-weekly) reduced TRIR by 46% and DART by 35%. While an additional stretch to weekly from bi-weekly didn't have a huge impact, 3% to TRIR and about 16% to DART. So, an extra 15 minutes per month can cut your TRIR nearly in half. With the ripple effect TRIR has on various areas of the company, that ROI is prolific! #constructionsafety #safetyfirst #commercialconstruction #toolboxtalks

Building Safety Act I Offsite Roundtable Discussion RLB Partner, Tim Sims joined other built environment stakeholders this month at the Light Steel Frame Association’s roundtable discussion to talk about the implications of the Building Safety Act and the challenges of implementing it. Tim comments, “Designers, contractors and clients have a lot of work to do to get across the detail…. and a significant cultural change is required. It is also important for industry bodies such as the LSFA to have a clear direction of travel and build a relationship with the regulator, so they can guide members through the building safety process and support compliance with regulatory requirements."
