On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I want to shine a light on the understanding of disability issues. Mobilizing support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities is fundamental. Join me in listening to an inspiring episode of BNP Paribas podcast IN My Shoes with Pete Stone that shares stories of overcome challenges, and raises awareness about stereotypes and how to fight them in companies. Understanding disability (and people with disabilities) in the workplace is a major factor to improve inclusion policies. Together, let's build an inclusive workplace where every voice matters. #IDPD2023 #Inclusion #Diversity #BNPP4Diversity Clarisse Breynaert-Mauvage Valérie ARNAL - HUNT BNP Paribas Ability

When it comes to inclusivity, considering the accommodations required by individuals with disabilities is important, but it is only the first step. In order to genuinely support individuals with disabilities, we need to know the best way to do so. And how do we find that out? We should simply ask them. By actively involving individuals with disabilities and empowering them to express their perspectives, we build an inclusive society. The Gallup Coach Webcast Series has a very interesting episode about this exact topic. In it, Dr. Jennifer Camota Luebke touches on disability-inclusive workplace culture and a focus on strength instead of disability. How do you consider disability inclusion when it comes to your office, working culture, practices, products and services? It can be difficult to know where to start with any DEIB journey. And our experience consulting in this field at Missive suggests that there is also an ownership challenge - who's job is it to think about inclusion in your business? The answer is invariably 'everyone'. Everyone can make a positive difference to someone else's experience of inclusion and belonging. If you're wondering what you can do and where to start, I recommend adding this new podcast from Project Nemo to your commute or lunch hour https://lnkd.in/eeb3xHFW In the words of Kris Foster, who shares his story in episode one, disability inclusion, "that's better for everybody, right? Not just for people with disabilities."

July is Disability Pride Month, a time to recognise and reflect on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in the workplace. Many of these challenges are hidden, from physical accessibility issues to biases that affect career advancement or even basic access to systems or spaces. Despite progress, there are still numerous barriers that need to be addressed and progress isn’t coming fast enough. Creating an inclusive and accessible work environment is essential for supporting colleagues with disabilities and ensuring equal opportunities for all where disability and inclusion specialists or teams act as SME and not lead the topic in separation. Covering the basics would be to start mixing sympathy with empathy as there’s too much of the former and not enough of the latter. #DisabilityPrideMonth #Inclusion #Accessibility #WorkplaceEquality

Happy Friday! A month ago, we celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. However, I truly believe that creating awareness about disability inclusion should not be limited to a day or a month, but should be something we consistently bring to people's attention. Today, I am sharing this World Economic Forum article about the business case for disability inclusion. I personally believe it is important to include people with disabilities because it's the right thing to do. However, I understand that for some companies, it is crucial to highlight why they might be missing out on a vast pool of talent and potential revenue if they fail to include people with disabilities in their workforce and customer base. Click on the article, read about it, champion inclusion, and have a beautiful first weekend of 2024! #Diversity #Inclusion #DisabilityInclusion

INTEGRATION AND INCLUSION: Integration and inclusion are often used interchangeably, but they do not necessarily mean the same thing. Integration refers to the act of bringing someone or people into an existing group or system, while inclusion means creating an environment that values and respects all individuals, regardless of their differences, disability included. You can be integrated into a system or group and still suffer discrimination and stigma, but in an environment where total inclusion is embraced, the seed of love, respect, empathy flourishes. And since we are all candidates of disability, why don't we just agree that we are all going to push for a more inclusive society where everyone lives with dignity and happiness?
