What is your organization doing on Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework (30x30)? The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Campaign for Nature (C4N) have jointly developed the survey linked below with the intention to map the work being carried out by NGOs, IGOs, researches and IPLC’s groups on the implementation of Target 3 across the globe. The objective is to collect information about this conservation effort and make it available to all those interested, to foster collaboration and to guide further efforts where gaps are identified. We would like to invite you to fill out the survey, which will take you around 5-10 minutes to complete. We kindly suggest that you submit your answers by 28 February. Results of the survey will be shared with all respondents and will also be made available in other channels (to be defined). Please feel free to share this message with colleagues from other organizations who you think could contribute. https://lnkd.in/dyk-deez

🌿 Seeking Your Input: Survey on the Cultural Value of Seagrass Meadows in Strangford Lough 🌿 Hi everyone, I'm Heidi, a PhD student at Queen's University Belfast. I'm conducting research on how people value and interact with the seagrass meadows in Strangford Lough. While the biodiversity and carbon storage benefits of seagrass are well-known, there's still much to learn about their cultural value—how they contribute to recreation, heritage, and well-being. If you live, work, or play around Strangford Lough, your insights would be invaluable! Your participation in this anonymous 15-minute survey can help inform future coastal management strategies to consider these important cultural connections. 👉 Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/eUGHyBNF If you or anyone in your network has an interest in coastal environments or conservation, please consider participating or sharing this post. Your support is greatly appreciated! 🌊 #seagrass #StrangfordLough #conservation #coastalmanagement #environment #CulturalEcosystemServices #SustainableCoasts

My name is Jac, and I am an MRes student in Biosciences, Swansea University. I am currently undertaking my MRes project looking at new and emerging technologies in the conservation and ecology sector and would appreciate the input of anyone who works within this field for government, consultancies, or charities. The project aims to explore what established/new technologies are currently being used, and to explore attitudes toward the emergence of new technologies in ecological industries. I aim to explore the relationships between newer and more traditional technologies, the concerns, obstacles and limitations of these technologies, the development of established technologies, and the advent of emerging technologies. I am interested in examining the technological landscape for different ecological fields/organisations, how the landscape has changed over time, and how it is likely to change in future, including the development and implementation of established/new technologies. I also want to explore how the use of technology, traditional and emerging, is used to address conservational concerns. Using this information, I aim to determine how and where experience and education in understanding and using technology for ecology and conservation would best be implemented to fit graduates with the most desirable technological skills and expertise for ecological industries, be it for government sectors, ecological consultancies, or wildlife charities. If you are interested in participating, you can in two ways: via an interview (approximately 45 minutes-1 hour on zoom), and/or via completing a questionnaire (approximately 15-20 minutes), which you may, if permitted, share within your organisation. The link for the questionnaire can be found immediately below: https://lnkd.in/dQeDw9nr If you would be interested, firstly, thank you, I greatly appreciate your time and value your input. You can follow the link above to complete the questionnaire, but if you would like to participate in an interview, contact me via the addresses below: LinkedIn: via the account linked to this message. Angry scientist. Managing the Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (KCBD) of the European Commission. Posts are my own views.
In the case you missed the latest developments around the European Commission's proposal to change the international status of wolves from ‘strictly protected' to ‘protected', you will find below the link to the supporting material from the European Commission that has been made available on the last days of 2023. Please note that I am not involved in any of these developments via the European Commission's Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (https://lnkd.in/gekmEWgR) #Biodiversity #EuropeanUnion #wolves

Update on the infringement decisions from the European Commission: Netherlands (and other two countries) should comply with the Water Framework Directive. "In the Netherlands, permits for abstraction of water or discharges into water may be granted for an unlimited duration and no periodic review is required. In addition, where authorisations are given under general rules, there is no periodic review either. " Also, the Commission says that the Netherlands is not doing enough to protect biodiversity (birds in this specific case). The list is long (as usual) and very interesting (if one were so inclined):
