Does the universe actually care about you? Neurosurgeon and author James R. Doty, M.D. has something to say about this. Taking some time to reflect and review what I said in 2022, and asking, what has changed?? Importantly, I am wondering what positive impact or difference have been made through my interactions, involvement and practices,in communities that are impacted by crime, violence and other social justice concerns ? Furthermore, I am reflecting on the possibilities of having a dynamic relationship between public health and faith- based approaches, towatds meaningful community engagement and development, especially when dealing with issues of concern. Just taking time for self reflection as I enter February with all it has to offer!

"History is not just a collection of dates and events—it's a narrative woven with the stories of individuals who shaped the world we live in today. However, some voices have been overlooked, their stories and names forgotten. Among them are millions of enslaved individuals who lived through the harrowing chapters of pre- and post-colonial America, including the area that would become the United States. Their identities, their lives, and their legacies deserve recognition." I'm humbled by recent efforts to recover and honor the individuals who had been enslaved, oppressed, and forgotten. The 10 Million Names project is going to be a great blessing to those who descended from enslaved people. I'll drop the link in the comments. "A clear-eyed and urgent vision for a new system of political governance that draws on the latest findings of Earth system science to manage planetary issues and their local consequences. Deadly viruses, climate-changing carbon molecules, and harmful pollutants cross the globe unimpeded by national borders. While the consequences of these flows range across scales, from the planetary to the local, the authority and resources to manage them are concentrated mainly at one level: the nation-state. This profound mismatch between the scale of planetary challenges and the institutions tasked with governing them is leading to cascading systemic failures. In the groundbreaking Children of a Modest Star, Jonathan S. Blake and Nils Gilman not only challenge dominant ways of thinking about humanity's relationship to the planet and the political forms that presently govern it, but also present a new, innovative framework that corresponds to our inherently planetary condition. Honored to share that I've joined Maria Ressa as a Research Assistant at the Columbia Institute of Global Politics. Maria is a journalist, human rights advocate, Nobel Laureate, and now a Columbia University Professor. Our focus will be on AI, democracy, development, and human rights.
