'Self-isolation is not a skill, it’s a trauma response. Of course you should not be everywhere and you do not hustle to your credit to be included in everything. Important aspects of trauma recovery are the restoration of safety and empowerment. Recovery does not necessarily mean complete freedom from post traumatic affects but generally it is the ability to live in the present without being overwhelmed by the thoughts and feelings of the past. When we use bottom-up approaches in trauma recovery, we use nervous system knowledge to help the folks we work with understand how their body is reacting to the effects of traumatizing experiences, so that they may use various resources to come back to a state of safety and connection, within the body.
