It’s the third day of the Year of the Snake, and like many, I’ve spent the last couple of days spending time over reunion dinners, heartfelt conversations & of course, lou hei (4 times in 2 days haha!). Lou hei or yusheng, isn’t just about tossing ingredients high in the air. It’s a celebration of abundance, prosperity, and collective hope for the year ahead. Each ingredient symbolizes something meaningful. Raw fish for prosperity, golden crackers for wealth, and plum sauce for a smooth journey. And the higher you toss, the greater your luck (or the bigger the mess!). But beyond tradition, lou hei reminds me of something even more important: Success is a shared journey. Just like how everyone at the table contributes an ingredient, in life and business, the people around us, our colleagues, partners, mentors, help shape our growth. The energy we bring, the encouragement we give, and the aspirations we share create a momentum that lifts everyone higher.
