I know it says "gentle reminder", but let's be honest here...it's 2024 and these holidays are listed on the secular calendar. I'm not going to be "demure" about this one - please stop planning events or essential meetings or exams for these dates. "But Beth! There are *so* many holidays for all the different religions! If we had to block them all, it would be too much. We can't possibly account for everyone." Correct, you can't. However, you can be mindful about your employee population and get to know your people. You can avoid the major holidays and you can give floating holidays to all employees so that they can observe their practices. You'd never plan an all-team mandatory meeting for Christmas Day, right?

All of us are waiting for Christmas Holidays from 20th to 2nd of January. That means, we still have important things to do: - Register vacation form in HR system 🤗 - Block out your calendar with "OOO" until 2nd of January 🗓️ - Put "Out-of-Office" automatic reply - the sillier the better 🌴 - Decline and cancel all meetings that will happen during your vacation 🫣 - Choose Christmas-related Teams background 🎄 - Wear your "ugly" Christmas sweater at least once - Say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New year" to colleagues that you won't meet until next year 🎅 - End all meetings with "We will resume this next year" 🆕 - Conveniently schedule important meetings for next year with excuse "It does not make sense to start it before holidays" 😶🌫️ - Finish buying presents online (we all do it, do not lie) 🎁 - Do some actual work 🫠 #christmaschecklist #humor #DanskeBankFCRP

Public holidays now live in Operating. You don't have to ask people to mark them manually anymore! This means time saved and more accurate forecasts. How it works: - Create public holiday calendars based on a country's or state's specific holiday calendar - Assign public holiday calendars for groups of people at once, e.g. a country office - Add or remove specific holidays to create custom holiday calendars

You know one of the reasons of the reasons I am anti-sudden holidays, is the fact that I think no one sits down to assess their full impact. I’ll give an example based on what I do. A corporate organization had a huge event today. Set-up took the whole day yesterday. It’s a once in a year event, many people had flown in from different parts of the world. Technical set-up started very early yesterday morning and the hotel paid for two days including set-up day and actual event day which was to be today. Then as the day closes, a Kenya Gazzette notice starts doing rounds. Lo and behold! A holiday! Event cancelled, and now teams are scrambling to move it to Monday. If you’re in events business, this is the busiest time of the year, it’s next to impossible to secure a hotel with many of the big hotels reporting full booking till mid January. Assuming the hotel is available on Monday, you have to pay for Sunday and Monday again since it takes two days to set up. You have to pay all service providers double or triple. There’s no guarantee what you wanted on Friday will be there on Monday. We are talking millions of shillings lost. And that’s just one aspect. There were schools in the middle of exams, there were salaries to be paid today, there was a lot of moving parts.

With summer holiday season just around the corner I wanted to share some advice that a friend of mine received when her house was burgled whilst she was on her summer holidays. 1. Don't post your holiday plans on your socials before you go away. Especially if there is a way that people can figure out your home address (is your business registered there or have you posted photos of your home recently?). You're basically telling everyone that your house or office might be empty for the next 1 or 2 weeks. 2. Post your holiday news and photos when you return, making it clear that you're back .... 3. ....unless you go away on holiday at the same time every year (half term etc). In which case, vary the time that you post your holiday news so that it isn't clear when you actually went. 4. When you activate your out-of-office response, don't explicitly say that you will be going away on holiday. If you will be away from home, don't even mention that you're taking annual leave. Just say that you'll be away from your desk. Please follow these steps and have safe and wonderful holidays this year.

Happy Independence Day to my friends in the USA, and also, Happy Canada Day to my Canadian friends. It's been a busy week and even busier in the rental business. Celebrating national holidays like Independence Day and Canada Day holds immense value, fostering a sense of patriotism, unity, and joy. These holidays offer an opportunity to honor the history, culture, and achievements of a nation. For many, these days are spent with family and friends, enjoying traditions, fireworks, parades, and community events. However, for staff members of PMC's, these holidays often mean working to ensure guests have an exceptional experience during their stay. Recognizing the dedication and hard work of staff who sacrifice their personal holiday time is crucial for maintaining morale and demonstrating appreciation. Here are several ways companies can show their gratitude: 1. Holiday Bonuses or Incentives: Offer extra pay, gift cards, or bonuses. 2. Flexible Scheduling: Allow staff to choose shifts or offer flexible schedules. 3. Team Celebrations: Host a festive meal, party, or outing before or after the holiday. 4. Personalized Thank-You Notes: Send heartfelt notes from management. 5. Additional Time Off: Provide extra paid time off to be used later. 6. Recognition Programs: Publicly acknowledge holiday workers in company communications. 7. Comfort and Amenities: Provide special amenities like catered meals or snacks. 8. Opportunities for Family Involvement: Allow staff to bring families to work part of the day. By taking these steps, PMC's can demonstrate that they value their staff’s dedication and recognize the personal sacrifices made during national holidays. This appreciation fosters a positive work environment and reinforces the core values of Trust, Hospitality, Responsibility, and a Vibrant Environment, aligning with the THRIVE philosophy.
