Mr. Kalyanaraman Rajaraman was conferred the TSDSI Hall of Fame 2024 Award (https://lnkd.in/esy9p5AX) in the Champions Category on 2nd January 2025. The award was presented by Prof. Arogyaswami J Paulraj, Professor Emeritus, Stanford University, in the distinguished presence of Mr. S Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY; Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Former Chair, TSDSI and Former Director, IIT Madras; Mr. Satish Jamadagni, Chair, TSDSI and Mr. Mohanram Natarajan, Director General, TSDSI.
Mr Rajaraman’s notable contributions to India’s standardization landscape include:
-Integration of the TSDSI 5Gi Standard with 3GPP 5G (Release 17) standards enabling the inclusion of Indian IPR in global 5G standards. It marked the first time a TSDSI standard was adopted as a global standard, thereby enhancing the visibility and prestige of TSDSI.
-Advancing India’s leadership in 6G vision and standards, ensuring a strong presence in ITU discussions, particularly for IMT-2030 (6G);
- Championing the development of an indigenous telecom equipment ecosystem for 5G in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajaraman emphasized the need to scale up the number of PhDs in Deeptech areas, adopt a strategic focus on research in both public and private sectors, establish standardization cells within organizations, and ensure greater participation in formal standards development activities within Global Standards Development Organizations. He remarked, “The path from academic research to product development to the development of Standards is a relay race, for which a collaborative approach is essential.”
Prof. Paulraj released a TSDSI White paper on “Quantum Communications” (https://bit.ly/4fJqC25) during the event. The paper explores technology advancements, emerging use cases, regional customizations, implementation challenges and identifies standardization gaps. It provides recommendations on standardization activities, open sourcing, research and IP development.
In his address, Prof. Paulraj highlighted that leadership in today’s technology-driven world requires building revenue-generating product companies with innovation at their core. He added “AI is a revolutionary technology that must be invested in strategically by India”.
Technical Standards recently developed by TSDSI were also presented to the dignitaries. These include:
-Standards on Cloud Interoperability and Portability (https://lnkd.in/gdEg4RJD)
-Standardization of common data payload for Adaptive Traffic Control System and other Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) (https://lnkd.in/gr8gUbWc)
-Methods and Interface Design for RIS-Assisted Communication Systems (https://lnkd.in/gWM_QxnZ)
-Generic Relay Architecture for 5G and Beyond (https://lnkd.in/gp8tBVwQ).
