I help medical sales professionals to sell more to HCPs / stakeholders & retain business without making costly mistakes. ▶︎1-on-1 & group Medical Sales Coaching ▶︎Medical Sales Workshops ▶︎Medical Sales eCourses
One of the statements that makes me cringe is when people describe medical sales as a "lifestyle business." Don't get me wrong... I know all too well how the job can take over your life. I went seven years without a vacation and planned my days to be available to accounts and customers 24/7/365. It wasn't a lifestyle; it was my life. This was a huge mistake that I eventually corrected by hiring sales support personnel to free up some of my time. A job need not BE your life. It's great if you enjoy your work or even love it. I did. But if all you do is work, you're going to burn out. And miss out. What's the fix? Make sure you schedule time for you and your loved ones. Find something that lights you up that you can enjoy when you're not working. The more immersive the distraction, the better. My go-to activities were SCUBA diving and flying. I assure you, when I was 90 feet underwater, drifting in a three-knot current, or flying an airplane, I wasn't thinking about work. More importantly, engaging in activities you love helps to justify and reward you for your hard work. I'm not going to lie—work-life balance is hard to achieve and realistically impossible from the 'balance' perspective. As a medical sales professional, it's unlikely that your work and private life will actually balance. It's better to love your job than resent it. Make sure you have a full life outside your sales job. If you enjoy the people you work with and want to include them in your leisure activities, that's great...provided you can leave work behind. I'm posting this on the weekend. I'm hoping you're enjoying the day either by yourself or with others who mean something to you. You may spend most of your time at your job, but there's more to your life than your job. Don't let it become your lifestyle. #MedicalSales #HealthcareSales #MedTech #PharmaSales #Hospital Sales

"Sales was fun. There's excitement in the job, and plenty of challenges" said Kevin, the Head of L&D of a mid-sized Healthcare company. I asked him what made him say that. "Oh nothing. I just came from a Sales review meeting. I felt nostalgia and excitement. I was remembering the time I was the Zonal Business Head." Kevin said with a smile and a far away gaze. After a few seconds' pause I said, "seems like you really miss the action there." Kevin: Ya, sometimes I wish I could go back. Anyways, I'm here now and I can't be thinking of getting back to sales. Me: What if you could? Kevin: Look, it's been a few years that I'm in this role, after I chose this, been working hard here and have probably lost touch with the relevant skills on that side. A long discussion followed, and a few sessions, during which Kevin changed his paradigm from "if only" to "why not" and the several possibilities. Today he is the Sales Director in the same organization, leading a large team and runs a profitable business with significant growth year on year. As I reflected on Kevin's journey, I learned this: don't let doubt hold you back. Believe in yourself, focus on the "Why Nots?", and watch your dreams take flight. The truth, as Sri Cāitanya ji would teach us, is: "It will work, if you forget all the reasons it won't." What do you think? Founder | Consultant | Committed to accessibility, inclusion, and driving meaningful change in my community.
Over the past 2 days, I had the opportunity to shadow some fabulous sales professionals from Regal Staffing Services. Not only did I have an absolute blast, but I gained some valuable insight about what a day can look like in sales. I couldn’t help but notice several parallels between sales and my current role as an occupational therapist (OT). Here are 4 of my main takeaways: 💡 Relationships are the backbone of both sales and OT. If you don’t have a trusting client relationship, you won’t get very far. In sales, you need rapport and trust to facilitate transactions. In OT, fostering a therapeutic relationship is crucial to supporting the client’s progress and well being. 💡 Sales professionals and OTs are both solutions focused and require extensive creative problem solving skills. Sales professionals are constantly looking for solutions to their client’s challenges, identifying objections, and overcoming them. OTs assess barriers to their client's independence each session and develop strategies to help their clients overcome them. 💡 Education is key. Sales professionals spend a lot of time educating their clients on their services and products. OTs are also constantly providing education to clients and caregivers about therapeutic strategies and equipment that will help increase quality of life. 💡 In both fields, meeting goals is a crucial part of the job. In sales, professionals set targets and work towards achieving them. OTs collaborate with client’s and caregivers to set functional goals that will facilitate increased independence and quality of life. A huge thank you to Anis S. and Tom Van Oevelen for making this experience possible for me! Even though sales and OT seem like vastly different fields, it’s easy to see that they have some surprising similarities! #sales #b2bsales #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #careertransition
