In the car-centric environment comprising most of the United States, having a reliable car is the most important factor in determining if you can get around. According to new data from Kelley Blue Book and Cox Automotive, the average transaction price of a new car in July 2024 was $48,401. That is not cheap. With new car prices soaring, Consumer Reports estimated that as many as 40% of buyers last year were solely eyeing used models. But with so many cars on the used market, it is easy to settle for a car with an attractive set of features for a low price. However, the results of a new study by Consumer Reports show that buyers might want to avoid one particular Detroit automaker and its well-known brands, as they lack reliability.

6 out of the 10 fastest selling new vehicles in May are… Toyotas. * All 6 of the Toyota Models had a market days supply of 36 days or less, with many in the low 20s * On the slowest selling cars list, CDJR models dominate with 4 out of 10 vehicles, all having more than a 230 days supply * The Blazer EV which Chevy just recently started selling again replaced the Mach E as the slowest selling EV with a 274 days supply, with the Mach E dropping off the list after price cuts from Ford With the exception of the Land Rovers, the top 10 fastest selling new vehicle list all start at under $40k, with many starting in the mid 20s. Consumers are looking for not just affordability but value as well. Cars.com just released its 2024 Best Cars for Car Seats Report! It provides current and expecting parents with a resource that evaluates which vehicles easily and safely accommodate cars seats for growing families. According to a Cars.com survey, dealers are key resource to growing families: 🤝 Of parents surveyed, 84% who brought their car seat to test its fit in a vehicle prior to purchase said their questions were answered effectively by the dealer. And automakers continue to build family-friendly vehicles: 🏆 Volkswagen earned half of the top picks in this year’s report. Nissan Motor Corporation, Lexus and Subaru of America were also top picks. Cars.com’s American-Made Index is an independent annual ranking that determines the vehicles that have the most significant impact on the U.S. economy. Why does this matter to dealers? Because it matters to car shoppers. Cars.com's research found car shoppers want to buy American-made cars — 56% of in-market shoppers are willing to pay more if it creates U.S. jobs. ☄️🛰️ Assessing The Most Disappointing Cars in USA According to Visual Capitalist, the most disappointing cars in the United States have been identified based on data from Consumer Reports and J.D. Power. The disappointment is largely based on reliability and owner satisfaction scores. The Mercedes-Benz GLA has been identified as the most disappointing car, topping the list with low satisfaction ratings with respect to comfort, driving, and in-car electronics. Other disappointing models include Cadillac Escalade, GMC Sierra 1500, Tesla Model X, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Luxury brands like Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla had a significant presence on the list, challenging the perception that high-end brands equate to higher satisfaction. Another surprising entry was the Nissan Pathfinder which had a considerable gap between predictions and performance. Further, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) had three brands - Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and Dodge ranking low on reliability, with half their models scoring less than the mean. It is important for automakers to take this feedback into account, as it directly impacts the trust and loyalty of consumers.
