🗣️ Siri, explain Regional Electricity Pricing to me! ❓Did you know that some areas of the UK currently generate so much excess wind energy, we offset unused quantities to France, only to buy it back at a higher price Norway ⁉️ In January’s blog, we continue one of the biggest current debates in the energy industry - whether tailoring electricity costs to reflect the supply and demand in regional areas is a positive approach to store excess energy & cut costs to the consumer. 🐙 Octopus Energy CEO Greg Jackson is a prominent advocate for this model, and there’s a video link within the blog to a recent interview he gave on this subject. 📣 #Negative #Electricity #Prices Surge in #Europe as #Wind and #Solar Expand Rapidly On the first trading day of 2025, #Germany's electricity prices dropped below #zero, marking another milestone in the growing prevalence of negative electricity prices across Europe. This phenomenon is driven by the rapid expansion of wind and solar energy, which increasingly saturate the grid with excess power during periods of high generation and low demand. Germany, a leader in renewable energy adoption, witnessed a significant surplus of electricity recently due to strong winds and sunny conditions coinciding with reduced industrial activity during the holiday period. As a result, power producers paid consumers to take excess electricity off the grid, underscoring the challenges of balancing supply and demand in a renewable-dominated energy market. 🌍 As Europe transitions further toward renewable energy, #battery #storage #systems will become an indispensable tool for managing the complexities of a decarbonized #energy landscape. This news highlight both the promise and the challenges of this transition.

Heat pumps revealed as the most in-demand green energy source in the UK. New research* has found that: 🔍 96,454 Google searches for heat pumps each month in the UK 📈 Solar panels take second spot with 68,192 monthly searches 🔌 Electric radiators, underfloor heating and wind turbines also in high demand I've written about all these green technologies (apart from wind turbines) in the last 12 months. In total, there have been: - 2,359 articles on heat pumps in the past year - 1,975 articles on solar panels - 520 articles on portable heaters Government initiatives like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme are helping with domestic renewables but there's still a huge gulf between actual installs and annual targets. As the UK aims to become net zero by 2050, the demand for renewable energy sources will continue to grow. I can feel the momentum gathering but is it happening quick enough? #RenewableEnergy #HeatPumps #SolarPanels #NetZero --- Image featuring the Vector Homes concept at the University of Salford's Energy House Labs *Research by Confused.com based on google searches and keyword trends

The first Weekly Energy Report of 2025 is now available for viewing courtesy of Brownlow Utilities 🙌 During the festive break, energy markets experienced fluctuations driven by shifting supply and demand. Weak wind generation and unplanned maintenance in Norwegian flows caused a slight market increase. In addition to inconsistent wind forecasts... 🌍 To learn more about the current situation in the worldwide energy market, be sure to click on the document below. 👇 #weeklyreport #energymarket #energyreport

Rewiring Aotearoa is running a survey on home energy. ⚡ Do you think rooftop solar is woke nonsense? They want to hear from you. ⚡ Do you think electrification will undermine energy security? They want to hear from you too. ⚡ Do you think solar and home battery systems sound nice in principle, but are well beyond your budget? They also want to hear from you. Rewiring Aotearoa don’t only want to hear from the people who already love the idea of electrifying their home. They actually especially want to hear from people who don’t like the idea of electrification, or haven’t thought much about it, or think it’s out of reach. Take 5 minutes to give your honest thoughts about rooftop solar and home electrification. Let’s advance the conversation. They survey is available here: https://lnkd.in/g_gWQApy

Getting off gas is an essential step to manage our emissions, state and federal targets and our national determined contributions under the Paris Agreement. Loss of gas supply to the town of Esperance was a crisis and Horizon Power and the state government stepped in to provide replacement energy at short notice. Whilst we advocate for a managed transition it is clear from this ABC story that homes can be reliably all electric. SEN did independent energy modeling for Broome that showed renewables and battery storage could provide the majority of electrical energy with a much reduced reliance on fossil fuels as backup and long duration energy storage. https://lnkd.in/gy3H5C7K

Free electricity today in afternoon in #Netherlands - Below is the plot of electricity prices vs time along the day for my energy provider. Someone who use Dynamic contract will literally pay €0 to use electricity today - With the sun shining bright today, this is the first day in Netherlands where energy companies will distribute free electricity - This mostly comes from the excess power in the grid caused by high number of Solar Panels in Netherlands which people own in the house - (almost) all energy companies are now charging solar panel owners to pay feed in energy for the excess power they add to grid - This also shows the conundrum as on one end government wants to remove reliance on fossil fuels but at the same time, there is lack of infrastructure to support renewable energy. - I believe in future each house will have to own their own battery or local grid based battery to use the excess power stored along the year What do you think ? curious to hear what can be the solutions to this excess free power #solar #energy #renewable #Europe #summer Vrijopnaam

📰⚡ It is rare to see renewable energy associations and heavy industry players agreeing on matters of energy policy – however just this is currently happening regarding discussions to split the German electricity market into two or more separate “bidding zones”. Southern industries fear rising prices, while northern wind energy producers are afraid of falling prices. Supported by some grid operators, they caution against the split. Proponents argue that lower prices in high-production regions could attract energy-intensive industries like electrolysers. Various economic arguments have been presented on both sides. So, what is the legal background for this discussion and who will decide? Partner Dr. Christine Bader shares her insights in our latest article as part of our 'Heavy Industries Go Light' article series: https://lnkd.in/eUZRm_MW #WFW #EnergyTransition #Renewables #Power
