Looking forward to capturing (from an aerial prospective) the historical moment of the ships return to the Clyde.

It’s brilliant to see that A&P Tyne, Hebburn yard secured a visit from Alison McGovern MP and as a Birkenhead MP for her to signal the desire to see the return of shipbuilding. I am long invested in this, I was there for the final shift leaving Swan Hunter, despite the huge amount of work led by former Newcastle East MP Nick Brown. I have worked with industry and the public making the case for the marine industry as well as oil and offshore. It’s all about action and outcomes. I led the work for the A&P Tyne yard in the lobbying government to secure much needed work for the aircraft carrier, ensuring security of the yard and job creation. What a result this was for the company and the region. ( see below) https://lnkd.in/eYcDFCtT So this is a long held passion of mine. It’s the reason why I have never let up on the need for a long term dredge solution for the River Tyne, and for the lifting of the cables - my first correspondence to government on this issue was 1992, and we have seen numerous governments fail to grasp this economic opportunity. Today I feel a glimmer of hope through the work of the task group is pressed to establish Tyne First, and the development of the first regional industrial strategy. This is also why I went to the line on securing the green super port in the devolution deal. I’m sadly no longer in a role of influence but I’ll certainly be making sure to hold all who are to the task. UK content. UK quality. Long term, quality jobs which would run through generations. This is our opportunity to redefine the North East.

#YearInReview: TSB’s investigation (M22C0231) into the 2022 Sam McBride ferry dock collision identified that only estimated counts of passengers on board were taken. Accurate passenger counts are necessary to ensure that there are enough lifejackets in appropriate sizes for those voyages, and that all passengers and crew are accounted for in an emergency. This is why the TSB recommended that Transport Canada - Transports Canada implement a process to validate that passenger vessels are keeping an accurate count of all passengers, including a separate count of the number of children and infants, on all voyages (M24-03). Sinking of HMAS Sydney On 19 November 1941, the Australian light cruiser HMAS Sydney and the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran engaged each other in a battle off the coast of Western Australia. Sydney, with Captain Joseph Burnett commanding, and Kormoran, under Fregattenkapitän ('Frigate captain') Theodor Detmers, encountered each other approximately 106 nautical miles off Dirk Hartog Island. The single-ship action lasted half an hour, and both ships were destroyed. From 24 November, after Sydney failed to return to port, air and sea searches were conducted. Boats and rafts carrying survivors from Kormoran were recovered at sea, while others made landfall at Quobba Station, 60 kilometres north of Carnarvon; 318 of the 399 personnel on Kormoran survived. While debris from Sydney was found, there were no survivors from the 645-strong complement. It was the largest loss of life in the history of the Royal Australian Navy, the largest Allied warship lost with all hands during World War II, and a major blow to Australian wartime morale. Australian authorities learned of Sydney's fate from the surviving Kormoran personnel, who were held in prisoner-of-war camps until almost two years after the war with Germany had ended. Controversy has often surrounded the battle, especially in the years before the two wrecks were located in 2008. How and why a purpose-built warship such as Sydney was defeated by a modified merchant vessel such as Kormoran was the subject of speculation, with numerous books on the subject, as well as two official reports by government inquiries, published in 1999 and 2009. According to German accounts—which were assessed as truthful and generally accurate by Australian interrogators during the war, as well as most subsequent analyses—Sydney approached so close to Kormoran that the Australian cruiser lost the advantages of heavier armour and superior gun range. Nevertheless, several post-war publications have alleged that Sydney's loss had been the subject of an extensive cover-up, that the Germans had not followed the laws of war, that Australian survivors were massacred following the battle, or that the Empire of Japan had been secretly involved in the action (before officially declaring war in December). Currently, no evidence supports any of these theories.

Orange Juice Tanker Saves Solo Sailor from Sinking Vessel in Atlantic On 10-12-2024, the U.S. Coast Guard and the crew of the orange juice tanker Orange Ocean demonstrated exceptional maritime rescue skills. Their swift and coordinated response saved a solo sailor in distress approximately 420 miles north of Puerto Rico on Friday. Kirill Vladimirovich, the solo sailor, was facing a dire situation after he reported his vessel taking on water. The crew of the Orange Ocean, an orange juice tanker, sprang into action. They immediately altered their course and began making their way to the distressed sailor's location. According to the reported information, the Orange Ocean's crew successfully rescued Kirill Vladimirovich, bringing him aboard the tanker. The sailor was reportedly in good health, despite the harrowing ordeal. This remarkable rescue highlights the importance of international maritime cooperation and the bravery of those who operate on the high seas. The U.S. Coast Guard and the crew of the Orange Ocean have shown us the true meaning of teamwork and dedication. It's crucial that we recognize and respect the risks faced by solo sailors and the vital role that rescue teams play in saving lives at sea. This article highlights a crucial challenge for the US maritime industry. While attracting new US mariners is essential, exploring talent from Latin America and the Caribbean could provide a much-needed boost. Streamlining credentialing processes for qualified mariners from these regions could unlock a significant pool of skilled personnel with the consequent redeployment of US mariners currently employed in non-essential roles to be transitioned to fill critical gaps. #maritimeindustry
