Today is a bad RSI day. So, today I'm reading a Kindle book in a mirrored desktop window in the Vision Pro. Because my right hand and arm are aching, I'm opting to use my left hand to navigate the book. But of course, the "down arrow" key is on the right hand side of the Apple wireless keyboard. (Holding the keyboard this way seems to work.) And I'm also having a bad neck day where looking down hurts; looking up is better. (For once, the heavy Vision Pro is functioning as a counterweight.)
The book I'm reading on the screen is "Against Technoableism: Rethinking Who Needs Improvement" by Ashley Shew. I've just started the book, but I do appreciate this quote from her: "We already know retrofitting sucks. Why not build things to be as inclusive as possible now instead of trying to fix them later?"
Exactly. Can we start building towards the unknowable future? Can we do it in a way that allows each person to:
1) access their environment the way they prefer
2) have devices, furniture, and spaces that adapt to changing needs ... even have the people create their own solutions!
Bonus:
3) do in a way that's inspiring and beautiful
I think we can.
