What does the journey of financial literacy look like?! Is it linear and straightforward? Is it more complex than that and do the right systems exist to support someone on a journey from food poverty to financial empowerment? 🤔 It was my privilege to bring partners from Food Bank, Money Advice St Neots, eVolve your future, Youth For Christ and some welcome guests in Lee Candler and Craig White together yesterday to continue our work on mapping the user journey for someone becoming financially literate. I have seen first hand the incredible impact MAST have had on supporting local people with millions in debt collectivity, we have an opportunity with the Citizen Hub to work with all of these organisations to find more ways to expand impact collectively at all stages of that journey. Look forward to continuing that progress in the coming weeks and months, let's get all these organisations the funding they need to give them the best chance of not just reacting to the growing need, but supporting local residents become more confident handling their own circumstances long term. #StNeots #Financialliteracy #CoGrow

🚗 Norma Fralin's Story: Gaining Freedom with Responsible Rides 🚗 For Norma, having reliable transportation wasn’t just about convenience — it was a lifeline. Did you know? 💡 A skills exodus played a major part in the decline of housing – from 235k to 106k units annually between 1998 & 2014. Race-rigged policies destroy opportunities. Non-racial empowerment uplifts all hardworking people. The IRR has a plan: https://bit.ly/4aeDkmE

‘There is a sense of insecurity that never leaves you if you grew up working class’. One of the best articles I’ve read about class: the long term impacts of poverty even in the midst of social mobility; the liminality you experience if you reach financial security; the fact that that financial security never feels (or literally isn’t) secure; the people from working class backgrounds who pull the ladder up; the ones who maintain a sense of social justice and attract the moniker of ‘champagne socialist’ (I’ve been called that as well); the scripting of your class according to diction, cultural tastes, instead of whether you have a safety net. Class still matters to the people who understand that poverty has a long tail.
I've been working class and I've been middle - this is the real difference

My passion, work, past, and future lie in community finance because of a couple things I've learned in two decades using, building, operating, and governing community finance initiatives... SMALL LOANS to people in our communities are NOT BAD. SHITTY, predatory LOANS reaching our communities (in-person and online) are BAD. COMMUNITY FINANCE creates MORE OPTIONS, MORE AUTONOMY, and MORE RESILIENCE. We need more financial solutions generated and owned by the communities they serve. #MoreCommunityFinance #LessShittyLoans
Community finance is an emerging part of Canada's social finance ecosystem. In order to develop and scale place-based community finance in Canada, social changemakers need to understand that transformations are needed now more than ever before. 🤝In partnership with Catalyst: Community Finance Initiative, Future of Good produced these articles to enable knowledge-sharing amongst community finance and capacity organizations. Explainers were produced in partnership with The Green Line, a hyperlocal, solutions-focused media outlet that investigates the way we live to help young and other underserved Torontonians survive and thrive in a rapidly changing city. Why Teaching Kids About Money Matters: A Nostalgic Look Back and Forward! Yesterday, I had one of those heartwarming moments that make you reflect on life and the lessons we pass on to our children. I found my 9-year-old daughter enjoying counting the £100 she’s saved up from doing various jobs around the house. It instantly took me back to my own childhood and a brilliant initiative by NatWest Bank that left a lasting impression on me. 🐷💷 Some of you (I am 47 yrs old - lol) might remember the NatWest Pigs Savings Scheme from the 1980s. NatWest ran a promotion encouraging UK children to save money by rewarding them with a series of porcelain piggy banks. Each pig represented a milestone in savings, starting with a baby pig, Woody, for saving £5, progressing through Annabel, Maxwell, and Lady Hilary, until you reached £100 and received the final pig, Sir Nathaniel. Collecting the whole pig family was a source of immense pride. 🐽🏆 That initiative wasn’t just about saving money; it taught us about the value of money, the importance of setting and achieving financial goals, and the joy of reaping rewards through hard work and perseverance. These lessons are timeless and incredibly valuable, not just for children, but for adults as well. 📈💪 Seeing my daughter’s determination and sense of accomplishment reminded me of how essential it is to instil these values and discipline early on. 💡💼 Did you collect the Natwest Pigs as a child? What early lessons about working for money do you still carry with you today? #FinancialLiteracy #PPC #AdSuccess #ChildhoodLessons #Ecommerce #BusinessGrowth I'm Dean Maskell 👨🦲 from AdSuccess - The PPC Growth Experts.
