Looking for the killer solution for smart cities? That's the wrong approach. Start with foundational technologies that will allow your city to layer multiple solutions easily. The Town of Cary demonstrates this approach in their new downtown park. Start with LoRaWAN from Everynet and a flexible enablement platform and then layer in solutions. As of today, they have enabled the following solutions: 1. Noise sensors for monitoring noise pollution and sound levels for musical acts and events in the park. 2. Trash bin sensors to use LIDAR for monitoring levels in 60 trash and recycling bins for proper and timely disposal. 3. Paper towel sensors to monitor dispensers to track usage and timely refilling. 4. Temperature sensor for the beverage cooler to ensure proper temperatures for the bar in the park. 5. Weather sensors to track temperature, wind speed, wind direction, lightning detection, and barometric pressure for park operation management. There are several spaced around the park to map microclimates to see where the hotspots are located. 6. Door contact sensors and PIR occupancy sensors to track restroom usage for timely cleaning of facilities in the park. 7. CO2 sensor in office space. 8. Soil sensors to provide soil temperature and moisture levels for the horticulturalist responsible for maintaining the variety of landscapes in the park. 9. Tree sensors to monitor some of the older trees in the park to track behavior during high winds and monitor vertical stability over time. #SCC24 #CaryNC Town of Cary #ConnnectedCommunites #SmartCities #LoRaWAN #IoT #Everynet Nicole Coughlin Justin Sherwood Ted Urbaniak
