In today's The Globe and Mail, Cascade Institute Geothermal Policy Lead Emily Smejkal, Executive Director Thomas Homer-Dixon, and Geothermal Energy Office Director Peter Massie offer insights on the potential for Canada's AOSTRA model (Alberta Oil Sands Technology and Research Authority) to serve as a blueprint for energy innovation. In the 1980s, AOSTRA demonstrated the technology that unlocked oil sands deposits that were too deep to mine. Fewer than 20 years later, that technology sparked an industrial revolution in Alberta. We can develop the technologies we need to improve productivity and get us to #netzero. But we need to re-think our commitment to technology neutrality and remember the important lessons from AOSTRA. https://lnkd.in/dYf6MVEW

Drilling for Superhot Geothermal Energy: A Technology Gap Analysis— authored by the Cascade Institute's Rebecca Pearce and Tony Pink of Pink Granite Consulting—examines challenges and identifies opportunities for the drilling of superhot geothermal wells.
