Progressing structural design for new project.........................

🚧 𝗕𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 🚧   The structural engineer designs the structure for its main purpose. For example, a roof beam is supposed to carry the roof. It is loaded only in the vertical plane by self-weight and other permanent loads, wind, and possibly snow. But that's not all. The structural engineer should consider the entire life cycle, i.e., transport or assembly. This is often forgotten, but when we hang the beam on the crane, it is subjected to a completely different load than in the final stage. Inclined ropes, as in case A, create a large axial force in the beam, which can cause lateral bending moments due to manufacturing imperfections or tilting of the beam. Structural Design

CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley (CHBWV) drew from its innovation and teamwork to create a 3D model of the Main Plant Process Building currently undergoing demolition. Created with the help of onsite engineers and a contracted company, the 3D model shows everything from walls and support beams to equipment and piping. Work crews use this model every day in their pre-job briefings and on both shifts. It allows crews to “see through the wall” of the building and what to expect once work starts. If they see something that’s not right or could impact safety, they have the right to stop work. The 3D model was used to determine the rate and sequence of how crews would deconstruct the Main Plant, which has been successful with no incidents, unplanned radiological releases or injuries. Engineers also used the model to evaluate the plant’s walls, components, structural members and obstructions, allowing for an analysis of structural integrity and hazard points as the demolition sequence unfolded.
