3 lessons you can learn from the Balinese celebration, Galungan. Today, the Balinese celebrate Galungan, the victory of dharma (righteousness) over adharma (evil). Ancestral spirits of deceased relatives visit the Earth, and the Balinese offer them hospitality through prayers and offerings. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐚: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐚 - 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐚𝐝𝐚 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐦 - 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐆𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐔𝐏...𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 I always like to think outside the box. In such a situation one day I was thinking about Sugriva and Bali, two important characters of Ramayana. After thinking deeply, I realized that Rama's banishment was necessary for the righteous and virtuous Sugriva to regain his old empire. As we all know Bali did various tricks to enthrone and established himself on the throne of Sugriva which was completely illegal and immoral. Sugriva being weak at that time due to more force and troops was forced to admit his defeat. Later, when Rama goes into exile and Sita is abducted by Ravana as a result of this exile, this turns out to be very good for Sugriva. Had Sita not been abducted, Rama would never have felt the need to raise an army to rescue Sita. And if there was no need to form an army then even a tyrant like Bali would never have been killed by Rama. Through this incident we understand that everything happens for a reason. Rama's exile was certainly sad for Rama but very hopeful for Sugriva. Similarly many events happen in our life which we don't understand the right answer at the time. But later when we reach the final result we realize how much that particular event was necessary for our life. So don't be particularly upset about anything in life. Take any situation in stride and try to find something to come out of it. #motivation #inspiration #life #career

They traded extensively with neighboring regions, including China, India, and other Southeast Asian countries. The kingdom was known for its impressive architecture, including Hindu temples like My Son, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcasing the Champa's mastery in art and construction. However, the Champa Kingdom gradually declined due to various factors, including pressure from neighboring kingdoms and the expansion of Vietnamese influence in the region. I think there is no issue of "was-was" in Kelantan because the chinese community there strongly understands what is considered halal and what is not. SIKKIM – A PEARL OF NORTHEAST INDIA Very recently I have visited Sikkim and like most of us, I too had got some previous information from internet, friends and family who had already been there. In this blog I would like to however pen down my personal experience and opinion based on the facts seen and lived. I certainly want to put a disclaimer on this; to avoid any unnecessary social media trolling. To begin with let me remind everyone, a mountain whether in Switzerland, New Zealand or in Sikkim – is still a MOUNTAIN! When nature doesn’t do any distinction with country tags, why do humans interfere? A snow-clad mountain in Kanchenjunga in Himalayas, sighted from a remote village in Sikkim, appears same to a snow-clad mountain in Alps in South Germany. Why do we have to question ourselves about the certainty of it? Every corner of Indian landscape always has more to demonstrate in comparison to expensive European landscapes. Focussing back to Sikkim – I must say North-east hasn’t got its due credit deserved on the world map, but before that on India map. Apart from the strikingly distinct character of cleanliness, nature’s beauty at its abundance and simple but delicious local food comprising of sel roti – type of lightly sweetened pretzel, thupka- one can call them soupy noodles with heartful of vegetables, dumplings, rhododendron wine, it can certainly boast about the humbleness of the native people. Their simple, down-to earth nature is evident in every form. This makes the whole difference- you are rooted, yet carry a vibrant charisma. Humbleness in itself is very attractive, just for the fact that it’s so rare these days! In my earlier blogs I had mentioned about how learning a language makes you more tolerant towards people. Further to this I would like to relate my Sikkim experience to make ourselves more grounded and connect with our roots. But I did feel at times foreigner in my own country, when I failed to connect with their local Nepali language. This again boils down to the fact I keep repeating is to learn THEIR language – a lesson learnt again! To close this blog, I strongly recommend Sikkim visit, preferably in Septmeber when the valley and the skyline of Himalayan range is beyond awesome. It’s indeed a classic example of modestly. Reviving the legendary Spice Route, which has flavored the world for thousands of years, curing food, providing medication, preserving mummies, and enhancing global cuisine. Imagine Christmas without the aroma and taste of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and ginger. What began as nature's blessing turned into a nightmare with the advent of colonialism, driven by the allure of valuable spices. Even after colonialism ended, we have struggled to reclaim the glory of our spice trade. Modern economics have distanced the younger generation from our identity as a spice archipelago. Kudos to the "Jalur Rempah" program by the Indonesian Directorate General of Culture for investing in human capital among our youth. Through their #laskarrempah initiative, they scout and groom young champions from across the Indonesian archipelago to retrace the ancient spice route, building their awareness and understanding of its potential. For the first time since the launch of Laskar Rempah three years ago, the trail extends beyond Indonesia, starting with Malacca, which was a significant port during the heyday of the Spice Route. This spice diplomacy supports the initiative to recognize the Spice Route as part of UNESCO’s heritage route/trail. As the Spice Route involves many nations, efforts are being made to make this route a joint initiative among the relevant countries. I am humbled to have been invited to speak at The Spice Route seminar during the Laskar Rempah visit to Melaka, where participants sailed using the Kapal Dewa Ruci. The program to reclaim the branding of the Spice Route is personal for me, as I am a product of the ancient trading along this route. My DNA ancestry tests reveal that my origins are predominantly from Uzbekistan, Mongolia, South Asia, China, and Champa. So yes, I am a result of the ancient spice trade. How fascinating!
