Since the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the challenges hydroelectric companies, organizations, and power marketing administrations like WAPA have faced include issues surrounding supply chain management. The delayed delivery of critical power system components has risen from mere months to years. This includes the availability of heavy voltage lines and large transformers, of which the latter can take up to 4 ½ years to be delivered and, in some cases, have risen in cost by 200%. Read below how WAPA formed a team to mitigate these ongoing challenges – and found results: #hydro #electric #hydroelectric #WAPA #cleanenergy #supplychain

"Electric power has historically been generated, transmitted, and distributed primarily as alternating current (AC) electricity. However, recent power technology trends have seen growth in direct current (DC) electricity generation, battery storage, and loads. These DC technology trends have sparked an interest in direct DC power distribution in buildings, mostly for potential energy efficiency benefits from fewer AC-DC power conversion steps.” – excerpt from the recently published CSA research report, Automated Demand Response and Efficiency in DC Power Systems for Buildings, co-authored by AES Senior Associate Brent Lipson and AES Electrical Designer, Kevin Voon. Follow the money – Part IV In 2023, $77.9 billion (bn) of transmission and distribution (T&D) in-service additions were reported by nearly 270 regulated electric operating companies across the United States – 16.5% higher than in 2022. The table, prepared by Hitachi Energy’s Velocity Suite research team, provides a breakout by category for both transmission and distribution investments. In 2023, three of the transmission categories increased in-service additions year-on-year by more than 20%, including underground conduit (81.5%), structures and improvements (34.9%), and poles and fixtures (22.0%). Nearly all categories of distribution additions increased by double digits from the previous year, including energy storage equipment (671.7%), poles, towers and fixtures (18.4%), underground conductors and devices (15.1%), street lighting and signal systems (15.2%), and underground conduit (13.0%). Power grid investment is at record levels with no slowdown in sight. #poweringgood #HitachiEnergy #powergrid #gridinvestment #gridresilience #electricity #energymarketintel
