After years of dedication and hard work, I'm thrilled to share a significant achievement in my career and a giant leap forward in the fight against climate change: the successful launch of MethaneSAT. This groundbreaking mission between Environmental Defense Fund and the New Zealand Government and funded in part by Bezos Earth Fund, Arnold Ventures, Robertson Foundation, and the The Audacious Project, marks a pivotal movement in Earth observation and emissions monitoring. With MethaneSAT's advanced spectrometers, algorithms, and state of the art data platform, MethaneSAT will provide high-resolution measurements of methane emissions around the globe. This data is critical to our efforts to understand and mitigate one of the most potent greenhouse gases affecting our planet. Being a part of the initial team to bring this mission to life has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. As I celebrate this achievement, I reflect on the journey that brought us here. The path to innovation is filled with challenges, learning, and growth. It's the passion, resilience, and collective effort of many dedicated individuals and hard working teams that drive us forward. To all my EDF and MethaneSAT colleagues-- you are the best of the best, and I am proud to have wrestled this beast alongside each and every one of you. I'm honored to have played a part in the mission and am excited to see the impact MethaneSAT will have on our collective efforts to protect the planet. Now, let's continue to support and invest in science, technology, and the diverse workforce and collaborations that will lead us all toward a brighter, more sustainable future. Here's to the next chapter in space exploration and environmental stewardship! 🌍 💫 #MethaneSAT #Climatechange #cutmethane #innovation #sustainability #environmentalscience #womeninstem #womeninscience
We're in orbit! 🌌 MethaneSAT has successfully separated from the SpaceX #Falcon9. A new era in tracking global methane pollution has begun. https://lnkd.in/g38hCzzj
Well done! When it launched I thought of you and how grateful I am for bright minds working in the climate space.
Fantastic!
You rock!
Exciting news! Here’s to even more of it. 👏👏
I just heard about this on NPR…thanks to all of you at Methane SAT
