Please join me and other advocates for older adults in opposing SB 1249. SB 1249 will invite County governments to take over non-profit Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), or split up multi-County AAA partnerships into single entities without any right to appeal, or any input from the existing organization. This will result in increased administration costs and decreased services. Perhaps even more dire, SB 1249 calls for the local control and prioritization of spending to be given to the state to determine a one-size fits all priority. Current law recognizes that the needs of older adults in urban Orange County varies greatly from Coastal Santa Cruz, or from rural Alpine County, and allows local areas to set and target funds to what will work best to address the unique needs of their community.
