Wishing all students who are heading back to school this week good luck with the start of term! In July, we held a special graduation ceremony for our Links Media College graduates to highlight the academic and personal journeys of our learners. The celebration included musical performances by young people from Links Studios, Caribbean cuisine, a DJ, and a photobooth ✨ Links Media College supports young people to find their future with fully accredited and recognised qualifications in Music Technology, English, and Maths. We look forward to celebrating our next graduates in 2025!

- I help high school and middle school choir directors become more effective, improve engagement, and build sustainable choral programs while developing a healthy work/life balance. Learn about my mentorship program!
The stark differences between traditional college education and mentorship programs for new music educators. We discuss the essential skills that are often overlooked in credential programs, such as classroom management, the acceptance of making mistakes, and the realisation that learning doesn't stop at graduation. Through mentorship, new teachers can gain the practical knowledge and support needed to thrive in their roles, offering a level of preparation that college programs alone cannot provide.

What is person-centred? In trying to help our students, we want to get things right. We are working toward the most effective way for them to have their voice. How often does this process of education become a process of correction instead? For example, we may see that they are not helping themselves by holding or using their body in a particular way - but how do we really know? We may have been taught correct posture or 'good technique' ourselves, we may perceive the benefits for ourselves. How does this translate for someone else's voice body/personality/perception? Perhaps the only way in which we can really guide the student is to help them to discover it themselves. They may discover that their back has a natural curve or bend, and that the most effective way to sing means allowing this assymetry. They may feel so vulnerable or insecure when releasing the abdomen that this is not helpful for them right now They may be using more tension to hold their head on a straighter neck, than with a more forward position. Then to the way their voice is produced - the quality or sound is a personal preference. Introducing other qualities can take time, exploration, play, and trust in you and in themselves. With time, the learning is exploratory; the changes will be more lasting; the rate & change becomes exponential. A slow start, treading carefully is more likely to have lasting change. Come and join me for a two-day immersion into teaching young voices. 26 and 27th October in Guildford. Details on my website: https://lnkd.in/ekBa32cH

🎓 Excited to share a fresh perspective on curriculum innovation from my alma mater, USF! This fall, University of South Florida is launching a course centered around Taylor Swift's music and its literary and cultural impacts. As a recent marketing graduate, I see a powerful connection between such innovative courses and the engagement and interest they foster among students! The new course, titled "Cultural Studies and Popular Art," not only delves into Swift's music but it will be compared with literary giants like Shakespeare and Dickinson, showcasing a compelling blend of modern pop culture and traditional literature. Why is this important? Courses that resonate with contemporary themes and student interests can significantly enhance engagement and motivation. This, in turn, equips graduates with a nuanced understanding of modern cultural dynamics, an essential skill in fields like marketing. As universities continue to adapt to changing educational needs, integrating relevant cultural studies can provide students with a more holistic and engaging educational experience. This approach not only enriches learning but also prepares students to enter diverse fields with a strong grasp of cultural and media literacy. #GoBulls 🤘 #EducationInnovation #USF #Marketing #Graduate #TaylorSwift #CulturalStudies

Do we agree that the best arts education is taught by qualified, creative teaching artists in tandem with classroom teachers? One challenge to this model is that, nationally, teaching artists are concentrated in a few, usually urban, areas. What about everyone else? Here's one solution that looks promising: https://lnkd.in/gmNxAAjp What do you think?
