Nothing major for you on #day9 of the #cybertechdave100daysofcyberchallenge. I solved three labs related to scanning networks. One lab is still left, intentionally for later. Here are a few points that I discovered in labs ( new to me, might be the same for you ) : 1️⃣ DNS doesn't just run on UDP but can also run using TCP. This is the first time I came across it (screenshot attached below). 2️⃣I found out about a protocol ( new to me ) - TFTP ( Trivial File Transfer Protocol ). You would have heard about FTP and the SFTP ( Secure version of FTP ) but have you heard about TFTP? Here's a bit that I dug about it: TFTP is typically not used by any of us but by network devices like routers, switches, etc. They do so to exchange files related to configurations or so. Unlike FTP and SFTP ( that runs on TCP ), TFTP runs on UDP, so file transfers are connection-less. Also, TFTP operates in local networks ( LAN ) only and doesn't communicate or transfer to the internet. That's it. See you on the 10th day. #networking #nmap #penetrationtesting

DNS is moving towards static stability, where serving a slightly outdated IP address is better than serving none at all. Since DNS can be a single point of failure, choosing the right TTL (Time to Live) for records is crucial. A shorter TTL ensures quicker updates but increases DNS query load, while a longer TTL reduces queries but might delay updates. (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a network management protocol used to dynamically assign an IP address to any device in network .DHCP assigns new IP addresses in each location when devices are moved from place to place, which means network administrators do not have to manually configure each device with a valid IP address or reconfigure the device with a new IP address if it moves to a new location on the network. ♦️How DHCP works DHCP runs at the application layer of the TCP/IP stack. It dynamically assigns IP addresses to DHCP clients and allocates TCP/IP configuration information to DHCP clients. This information includes subnet mask information, default gateway IP addresses and domain name system (DNS) addresses.
