Dr. Jason Kovacic discusses his paper comparing the current peripheral transradial trajectory to the coronary space in the mid-2000s, highlighting the benefits of radial access. 'What we know from the coronary field is radial access is patient-preferred, it reduces bleeding complications, it’s safer, and in some contexts it can actually improve mortality and significant outcomes,' Dr. Kovacic said. https://lnkd.in/gCMK-VE9

In 1903, Willem Einthoven, a Dutch physiologist, introduced the first practical electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), revolutionizing cardiac diagnostics. Before Einthoven's invention, understanding the heart's electrical activity was a complex challenge, with limited methods available for studying heart diseases. Einthoven's electrocardiogram provided a non-invasive, straightforward method to monitor the heart's electrical activity, unveiling crucial insights into cardiac health and disorders. Einthoven's work on the ECG was groundbreaking. He developed a string galvanometer, which was sensitive enough to measure the heart's electrical currents. This innovation allowed for the detailed tracing of the heartbeat, which could then be analyzed for abnormalities. For his monumental contributions to medicine, Einthoven was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1924. The introduction of the ECG has had a lasting impact on the field of cardiology, transforming the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases. It enabled early detection of cardiac conditions, guiding treatment decisions and improving patient outcomes. Today, the ECG remains a fundamental tool in medical practice, testament to Einthoven's enduring legacy in revolutionizing cardiac diagnostics. #MilestonesInHistory #MedicalHistory #WillemEinthoven #ECGInnovation #CardiacDiagnostics #NobelPrizeWinner #HeartHealthRevolution #LegacyInMedicine

A multi-center cohort study, supported by the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation, has just been published in the prestigious JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association. Led by CCF-funded investigator Lars Grosse-Wortmann from Oregon Health & Science University, this study is the largest ever to use cardiac MRI in pediatric hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). With data from over 700 young patients under 21, it reveals that scarring in the heart can be detected by MRI and is linked to an increased risk of sudden cardiac death. This research highlights the importance of cardiac MRI as a tool to help pediatric cardiologists make more informed decisions—especially on the use of implantable defibrillators. With only 9% of submissions accepted, getting published in JAMA is a huge accomplishment! 🙌 View article: https://ja.ma/3XYLVr2 #PediatricCardiomyopathy #HCMResearch #JAMA #HeartHealth #MedicalBreakthrough #SuddenCardiacArrestAwareness

🔥 🔥 🔥 We are delighted with the kickoff of this year's Journal Club of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology of the Elisabeth Hospital Essen 🔥 🔥 🔥 ⚡ Special thanks to Christine Adelhardt for presenting the study Readmissions after next-day discharge following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (EuroIntervention 2024 Dec 16;20(24):e1505-e1519). DOI: 10.4244/EIJ-D-24-00514. Evaluation of the safety of next day discharge after tf-TAVI with new-generation transcatheter heart valves 💡 no negative impact of next-day discharge on overall 30-day readmissions, cardiac or non-cardiac readmissions, readmissions for permanent pacemaker implantation or HF after discharge, or mortality, regardless of the type of transcatheter heart valve Do these results indicate a paradigm shift in the aftercare of TAVI patients - also in Germany?
