It's not a secret that I don't like the gym, however, I love the benefits of strength training. As a short person, the additional muscle mass that I gain and maintain from lifting weights helps me to live a more independent life, it improves my running, it maintains my bone mass and more. As we age, our risk of fractures and falling increases due to loss of muscle. Loss of muscle also can lead to low hormone levels, high insulin, abnormal lipids and more.
