Helping social changemakers deepen their impact for a kinder, more equitable world | CEO at Javelina | Host of How to Change the World Podcast | Public Speaker

‘Affordable housing’ has become a loaded term. Tangled with stigmas and stereotypes about the types of buildings and types of people living in them – these barriers have halted much-needed housing progress in its tracks. But our streets are telling a different story: From visible increases in homelessness to the struggle of finding a place to call home – the need for a shift is undeniable. That’s why I am so excited about the ad campaign launched this week by a Javelina client: Home is where it all starts. It’s time to change the narrative surrounding ‘affordable housing’ to what we all actually want and need: affordable rents and mortgages. And it’s not just about price. It's about finding solutions that cater to the diverse needs of our community, from those unable to navigate stairs in their own homes, to families forced to live miles away from work or school. The campaign is an incredible collaborative effort by Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), Home Matters®, DRA Collective, Cox Communications, Valley Leadership and many other organizations and leaders passionate about realizing the vision of an Arizona where everyone has a place to call home. But beyond the coalition effort, and beyond the ad campaign, this is personal. The housing crisis in our region is not a distant concept; it's a lived reality. Friends, family, neighbors, colleagues – so many are struggling to find their footing in a market that seems to be slipping away. As we launch the ad campaign, I'm reminded of the power of community and the impact of collective action. So let’s redefine the narrative together and work towards creating a future where everyone can find a place to call home. #housingcrisis #phoenix #arizona #socialimpact

Thank you for sharing some great content Catherine Alonzo! In helping to create the homeless solution for the governor of Colorado's team... this is quite a complex challenge that can be solved 85%+ relatively easily, with the right leadership and Intellectual Horsepower. The other 15% takes a little more effort. You'd think this (as well as other social challenges) would have been remedied years ago by all states. Then again, 93% of the "haves" just aren't interested in helping the "have nots". Thus; we only work with Top-7% Leaders... the only ones who actually change the world. - JR

Catherine, housing is a foundational component of a person's well-being. Just pull up Maslow's hierarchy of needs from your psychology 101 class in college. I will be doing a TEDX talk on rural housing issues in one month. I too believe we need to change the narrative around housing and look forward to seeing some of your campaign posted here.
