💊 Limited access to medications for opioid use disorder in community-based settings could be an issue of scale, contend a group of researchers in JAMA Network Open. 📈 Indeed, in the 20 states with the highest occurrence of substance use disorder (SUD), particularly opioid use disorder, only about a third of the community outpatient mental health facilities even offer MOUD. Half of certified community behavioral health clinics (CCBHCs), a specified type of outpatient mental health facility required to treat co-occurring mental health and SUD cases, offer MOUD. These findings could suggest issues scaling MOUD access, with key institutional barriers limiting certain facilities that treat SUD from offering the medications that could aid in therapy. #OpioidCrisis #MedicationAssistedTreatment #OpioidUseDisorder #HealthCrisis #SaveLives #PublicHealth #HealthAccess #AddictionRecovery #OpioidEpidemic #MentalHealthMatters #HealthEquity

Outpatient programs are a great way for people and their loved ones to recover from mental health and/or addiction challenges—without committing to residential treatment. Here’s what makes our outpatient treatment program unique: 📍Individualized care: We recognize the complex nature of substance use disorder and that treatment should be tailored to each person’s needs for long-lasting effectiveness. 📍Yoga and expressive arts: Participating in practices like yoga and mindfulness can offer patients the space to rediscover who they are without the substances. 📍Group sessions: Most of our outpatient programs involve group sessions as we believe in the healing power of community. These sessions are shame-free zones for patients to express their truth without judgment. Know that substance use disorder doesn’t have to control your life. It was great collaborating with Stacey Iobst, PhD, RNC-OB, C-EFM, CNE and Priscilla Novak, PhD, MPH, PMP on this paper. We find that over a third of #parenting women with #opioid use disorder (#OUD) had a co-occurring major #depressive episode (#MDE) and over a quarter of them did not receive any #behavioral treatment. Affordability was the most frequently cited barrier to treatment, followed by lack of treatment access and stigma. We discuss these findings in the context of the rising #maternal #mortality in the US and discuss implications for treatment providers and policy makers. Please give it a read.
Exciting new paper from Stacey Iobst, PhD, RNC-OB, C-EFM, CNE and Mir M. Ali on Use of Behavioral Health Treatment Among Parenting Women with Opioid Use Disorder in the United States https://lnkd.in/ei-jtWic

EXCITING NEWS: To increase access to #mentalheath and #substanceuse disorder treatment we’re investing $240M in 400 HRSA-funded health centers that serve more than 10 million people. And, in the Biden-Harris Administration, we have called on Congress to make mental health and substance use disorder treatment essential services in all 1,400 health centers that operate more than 15,000 service sites around the country. This has been a personal priority. In total, more than 30 million people get their primary care from community health centers. We know that there is growing demand for mental health and substance use disorder treatment among those we serve. There simply should be no wrong door when someone seeks mental health or substance use disorder help. We should be able to meet the moment in health centers across the country. That’s why we want to build on this new investment and continue to grow our work to integrate mental health and substance use disorder care into primary care. We look forward to continuing to work with bipartisan leaders in Congress to achieve this important goal. #integratedcare #recovery #mentalhealthmatters #primarycare #health #healthcare #wellness #medicine
