Consultant Connect is a model of streamlined healthcare - better patient outcomes, better patient experience, better clinician experience and lower cost to the NHS. I was inspired to share after discussing it with a Detective Inspector at the weekend illustrated the opportunity for improving public services for citizens, and staff, whilst reducing costs. Its premise is simple: a GP can call a consultant whilst the patient is in the surgery. Instead of waiting 14 weeks for a referral, patients can often get the right care immediately, or be sent for tests upfront, better equipping the consultant when the appointment comes, or be seen more urgently if required. It's an example of subtractive thinking. Instead of adding an extra step to an already slow referral process to weed out unnecessary appointments, it eliminates the wait for consultant input. It's also an example of how technology can transform a service - better *and* cheaper. (note: I'm proud to have helped get it started - but exited a couple of years ago. Jonathan Patrick, Scott Welpton, Katrin (Kat) James, Lucy Sammons, Roger Tweedale and Roger Ahn and team deserve all the credit...)

How common is long covid in children? Dr. Stephen Freedman, MDCM, MSc said that "at a population level, we probably do not need to worry about chronic symptoms associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection in children." "Our study highlights the need to focus more on strategies to prevent infection due to the acute impacts that infection can have on children and at-risk individuals that they come in contact with, such as the elderly or immunocompromised," he added. Measles can be very dangerous, especially for babies and young children. Our pediatric infectious disease specialist, Dr. Chad Sanborn, shares that the first symptoms typically appear 7-14 days after exposure and exhibit the “Three C’s” – congestion, cough, and conjunctivitis. A rash and fever also will appear 3-5 days after the first symptoms. Call your physician right away if you or your child has been exposed to measles. Watch Dr. Sanborn's video to learn more. #MeaslesEducation #MeaslesCare

Australia is currently facing a high rate of reported syphilis cases, and it has now been labelled as an epidemic by the Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC). In 2023, syphilis infections were recorded in almost every region of the country. Untreated syphilis can cause heart disease, mental illness, blindness, hearing loss and spinal cord issues. It can lead to permanent disability and even death. But there is good news: it can be treated, and it’s even easier to prevent. The interim CDC is encouraging Australians to take proactive and safe steps to curb infection rates. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gk7XNYZ7
