🚀 Exciting AI Developments: Grok 2 Grok 2 Elon Musk’s X AI company has launched the Grok 2 Beta, an advanced AI model focused on logic, reasoning, and text-to-image generation. It’s a significant upgrade from Grok 1.5, featuring capabilities that could rival top-tier models. The current available version is Grok 2 Mini, and despite its size, showcases impressive performance, especially in uncensored image generation. It’s built on Flux One, an open-source model offering image quality on par with MidJourney. Folks who are on the X (Twitter) platform with a premium or premium+ account can use it.

Elon Musk just shared his plan to use AI to summarize news events and social media reactions on X, also rolling out a new ‘Stories’ feature to provide users with real-time, accurate information. The details: X's AI chatbot, Grok, will analyze thousands of posts to generate news summaries that update as new information becomes available. The summaries will rely solely on X posts and commentary, not the text of news articles themselves, making the approach distinct from other AI summarizers. Grok's news summaries, called "Stories," are currently available only to X's premium subscribers — with a broader rollout expected later. While Grok doesn't cite sources well yet, Musk says better citations are coming, allowing users to dive deeper into published stories. Why it matters: Between Grok’s AI-curated news and OpenAI’s media deals, the way news is consumed and gathered is about to change. With X/Twitter acting as a primary news source for users across the world, managing issues like hallucination, bias, and misinformation will be key in the feature's early innings.

Elon Musk's xAI startup has released an upgraded version of the Grok chatbot called Grok-2, which is now available on X with a Premium ($8/month) or Premium+ ($16/month) subscription. Grok-2 is a "notable advancement" over its predecessor, Grok-1.5, and is more user-friendly, adaptable, and proficient across various tasks. Performance Comparison According to the Large Model Systems Organization (LMSYS) ranking, which gathers anonymous evaluations from thousands of individuals, Grok-2 holds the third position under the identifier 'sus-column-r' on the leaderboard. Billionaire Elon Musk pledged on Monday to open-source his artificial intelligence company xAI’s chatbot Grok this week, a pivotal move to make the generative AI bot available for free to the public as the world’s second-richest man sues rival OpenAI and bashes Google over its allegedly “woke” generative AI product, Gemini. KEY FACTS Musk, the billionaire owner of xAI, announced on his social media platform X Monday morning his AI company will open-source the chatbot this week, though he did not specify when the company will finalize the plan or which components of the chatbot will be open-sourced.
 By making Grok open-source, Musk would effectively allow the public to freely and publicly access the AI bot, which xAI released last year, keeping it restricted to X users who pay a $16 monthly subscription.
 Open-source modeling has become a focal point of Musk’s in recent months, after the billionaire sued OpenAI—the company he co-founded and later left—for allegedly backtracking on its founding pledge of creating an open-source model to instead prioritize shareholders.

Masks off? $$$ OpenAI raised a mammoth $6.6B, valued at $157B in a round led by Thrive Capital making this the largest VC deal of all time(plus $4B credit line from Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan et al)). Microsoft & Nvidia (they're investors & big customers too)participated. Apple sniffed for a while & dropped out, fearless Softbank jumped in - FOMO - once upon a time, this would have been seen as a positive signal. Times change, of course, Masa hasn't. Its not clear yet if the metamorphosis of this non profit research lab to a restructured loss making game changer is now complete. Before the celebrations began, CTO Mira Murati quit along with 2 other research staffers - all that money isn't slowing down the exodus. While some successful tech firms, like Google and Microsoft, have had stable leadership for years, others have been full of drama. Consider Apple and Uber. Interesting times nevertheless. 2. Gotcha! AI bots are now smart enough to solve 100% of those traffic-image CAPTCHA — the ones put in place to make sure they know, you’re human. Those images, known as Google’s ReCAPTCHA v2, are no longer industry standard. The newest version, reCAPTCHA v3, is an 'invisible' test that tries to prove humanity based on how you interact with a given web page. 3. PR or Public Service Announcement? Sam Altman published an essay about the future of super-intelligence, which reads like a cross between a TED Talk and a sermon about an impending apocalypse.
